It was known as the "South China Sea" because of located in the south mainland of China. This is the most popular English term and is international name of this water. However, this name is just a term that has no meaning in terms of sovereignty. South China Sea is located in the west of the Pacific Ocean, is a closed sea surrounded by the islands of Taiwan, the archipelago in the eastern Philippines, the islands of Indonesia and Peninsular Malaysia in the south and southeast, the Indochinese Peninsula in the west and mainland South China in the northern. The area of the South China Sea is about 3.4 million square kilometers, the average depth of about 1.140m and maximum depth of about 5.016m.
