In december of 1860 South Carolina was the first state to secede from the union. They were the first state to use the Confederate flag. Ten other states would join South Carolina in seceding from the Union. The “Rebel Flag” which we see today is what is considered to be the Confederate flag. It is also called the “Stars and Bars Flag.” There was three different versions of the flag that were used during the civil war. The Civil War started in April of 1861. When president Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, a bill which outlawed slavery, the war officially became about slavery. The flag which we see today was used by General Robert E. Lee to represent the army of Northern Virginia. Although the Confederate flag was used to
Leading up to and during the civil war both the North and the South ran into many troubles along the way leading to the climax of the combat. The North going into the war had a more widespread army that almost tripled at times the amount of soldiers claimed by the south and more support coming from many different sources. However, military leadership was not very adequate towards the onset and, the amount of desertions from the north almost doubled that of the south. The south on the other hand had quite capable leadership from beginning till end having more of passion going in to the conflict but, many variables that the south predicted to go about didn’t quite come to fruition thus, ultimately causing the souths hierarchy to crumble.
North and South were heavily dependent on each other during the years before the Civil War. The South produced materials (especially tobacco and cotton) which were America 's chief export goods. The southern states exported around 80% of the goods that brought cash into the American economy.
After the Civil War conditions were really bad because a lot of homes and personal properties were destroyed. Because of the War the Union lost 370,000 troop members and the Confederacy lost 260,000. Total 375,000 troop members were injured. Many civilians in the South died because of access to food was infrequent. I believe Reconstruction was necessary because after four long years of war they should move on from it and reunite as one.
The Confederate Battle Flag has always been flown primarily in the South as a symbol of their pride in their efforts in the Civil War. However, today it is viewed as a symbol used to breed hatred and support division among the people of the South. Therefore, the Confederate flag historically has been viewed as a symbol of pride, and it is; however, it has been used as a banner of hatred as well.
The South killed Reconstruction most by their resistance against the North. Reconstruction started after the Civil war between 1865-1876. During the Civil War, the North and South battled, (The North won) and the South laid in ruins. The United States was willing to let the South back in under some conditions, and that marked the day Reconstruction started. During the Reconstruction era, the South resisted the North’s help and Reconstruction died. Resistance means to oppose an offer or an offering. Southern resistance killed Reconstruction socially, economically, and politically.
The Civil War is a very brutal war in American History. One nation fought and killed its own people, and over half a million lives were destroyed and even more families were torn apart. The nation was divided because of slavery. In the North, people wanted to abolish slavery and make free states. In the South, people wanted to keep slavery because it was profitable to their economy and generated a 100% profit on all goods sold.
The Civil War allowed the United States to make the changes necessary to unify the country. In addition, it began one of the most transitional periods in the United States’ history. This period, the Reconstruction, brought about many political, social, and economic changes, which were both beneficial and disagreeable. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, the Panic of 1873, and the formation of the Ku Klux Klan are just a few examples of heavily impacting events for the United States.
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
One of the several factors that helped cause the Civil War was the economy at the time. While the economy wasn’t in bad shape, the North and South were different and had very different views and ideas about their futures. The Northern area couldn 't have huge farms like the South. However, they were very diverse in the items they wanted to produce. So they became more focused on industry. Items like cotton, wool, pig iron, weapons, furniture, and other important items were being produced at a faster rate than the south. "By 1860, 90 percent of the nation 's manufacturing output came from the northern states” (Industry and Economy during the Civil War) The need for slaves in the north had reduced drastically. Slavery wasn 't needed in the North as much as it was in the south.
When the Civil War was finishing, the South was at a place where everything was a social disorder, and a horrible economic place. The Union had a war destroyed the southern crops, plantations, the cities, and many slaves were going to the Union while their chiefs to be in the Union army. The inflation became so horrible that when the war was finishing, just by buying a piece of bread cost so much money for the South. Thousands of Southern people suffered so much because they would either starve to death, lose their clothes, homes, lands, and even slaves. That is why, by 1865, Washington had a really difficult task of the Southern Reconstruction.
To begin with, The south caused the reconstruction to crash and fail. The south tried to corrupt the 15th amendment. There was violence in the
The Civil War was from 1861-1865 . During the Civil War Abraham Lincoin was the president of the United States of America . In the South the president was Jefferson Davis not of the U.S.A but of the Confederate States of America . The North won the Civil War because they had more guns , men , and more ammo . The South on the other hand , had less men and guns and ammo in fact there were 22 million people North and only 9 million South and out of that 9 million only 5.5 were white . One main reason the Civil War broke out was that the North and South states couldn’t agree on slavery . The South did want slavery , but the North did not . In total 620,000 died in the Civil War in four years that’s how many people died . Many African
During the Civil War there were many differences besides slavery. This war had the most American deaths than all of the wars the U.S. has been in combined! The south seceded from the north for slavery and other less important reasons. The North had more of nearly everything like navy, soldiers, horses, and food, while the south had slaves, cotton, and donkeys/mules.Throughout the war many great leaders rose and fell, battles fought, and great and terrible outcomes.
The Civil War was a very influential turning point in the history of the United States. The war not only strengthened the connection of the states, specifically between states in the north and south, but it also resulted in the end of the old way of life in the south, known as the old south. The way of life style in the Old South was loved by many, Rhett from Gone With the Wind being one of them. Rhett and his future wife, but current friend Scarlett were fleeing Atlanta after an attack from the north when Rhett told Scarlett that she was witnessing the end of the Old South. Rhett is truly speaking the truth in this scene. The war was not even over and he already saw the end coming, the north 's increasing strength, industrialization, and the
