Johnson provides enough evidence to support his argument by using several primary sources. Slavery was absolutely very tough on slaves, but it also had an impact on its owners because they were very dependent on slavery. Everything revolved around slavery when it came to the slave
Johnson himself even owned slaves. Breen and Innes believe that this was one example of mutability, a black male could be owned as a slave, as well as reach a high enough status in the community to own slaves himself. Johnson was also involved in a court case against a white man. No one “questioned the legitimacy of slavery nor the propriety of a black man owning a black slave.” Breen and Innes argue slavery and racism are not as strong in the early century because you status in your community was established by how much land you owned.

These slaves went through so much and they are strong people who couldn't make history the way it is now and

Helots were the people of Messenia that were enslaved after the Spartans conquered Messenia. Sparta sustained by itself using helots to farm the vast resourceful and rich farm land the state controlled. Helots provided the economic needs for Sparta, while its citizens engaged in military service.

Nowadays all people know that, but in the past the colonists didn’t think about that. European sails to the African and the people and sources in Africa. Now they are free and must find labor, and get paid for it. No one wants to hire a Black man or woman. Then there were these things called the Black Codes that were created, they took away many of the slaves rights. These were created to ease the slaves back into society, but it’s not freedom. You can not promise freedom and give them half of a free life.
The system of sharecropping was only a modified alternative for slavery considering the workers would always have debt owed to the landowner and they were not treated much better. They would rent a small portion of land and then they would give the landowner the majority of the crops. Document D shows how sharecropping was spread widely throughout the South, replacing slavery. This prevented freedmen from being completely free, even after slavery had been abolished. In addition, many African Americans in the North were limited when it came to getting jobs.

In the South, the blacks had not exactly won their freedom. Sure the Constitution was amended, but this didn 't mean they would get that kind of freedom. I can totally relate to the Blacks back in the day, how hard they had to go through because of some very evil people who think they just can control anything they want. Me as a human being and a nice person would never use someone against their will because I have a little of what they call power. The Blacks were force to work for farm owners for almost something that didn’t even exist, so I guess you can say they worked for free.
