A revelation is when God shows himself to believers. A revelation can be categorised as either a general revelation or a special revelation. A general revelation is when God makes himself known through ordinary, common human experiences, for example experiencing God through prayer and worship. A special revelation is when God makes himself known through direct personal experience or an unusual specific event, an example of special revelation is enlightenment.
Revelations may prove the existence of God in the eyes of a religious believer as for example, God is seen in the holy books of different religions, such as the Bible in Christianity, and this leads religious to believe this proves the existence of God as words in the book are believed

Some religious believers think that there is evidence of Gods existence by communicating with God through prayer and meditation as they are speaking to God and listening for his reply. Not only do revelations help prove the existence of God, other religious experiences such as miracles and conversions also help prove the existence of God too. Miracles help prove the existence of God as if someone is cured of a disease they may believe that it is an act of God. Conversions also help prove the existence of God as people believe that they have been contacted directly by God to believe in God or change their beliefs about God. St Paul experienced a conversion as he was originally a Jew who wanted to kill Christians but on his way to Damascus he had a religious experience that caused him to convert to Christianity. Religious believers accept that some revelations are genuine as they …show more content…
Miracles are extremely difficult to prove as science cannot explain miracles. Another problem is that theists want miracles to happen, so they may lie about events that could be classed as miracles, some miracles are fake and made up by individuals that want fame and money for the event that they are said to have experienced. If the miracle is the curing of a disease, it may be that the doctors wrongly diagnosed an illness and the person was cured naturally. It is difficult to prove whether a revelation actually happened or not, especially special revelations. Special revelations occur to specific individuals or groups so they are therefore difficult to prove, scientific testing cannot prove whether a revelation actually occurred or not. Although general revelations are available to everyone, there are conflicting interpretation of them between the different religions and within individual religions, therefore making it impossible to determine which different claims about revelation are true. Atheists consider any revelation to be an illusion for a number of reasons, the first being that it is a false experience brought on by alcohol and drugs. Some believers are so desperate to have a revelation that they believe that they have had one, when in reality they haven’t. People claiming to have had revelations may be suffering from a physical or mental illness that makes
“Revelation”: Annotated Bibliography Growing up in the south people tend to lean on religion as a source for guidance. You are bound to get asked by someone “what church do you attend’? The south can pride itself on the Bible belt state with a more conservative side twist. Using the biographical strategy to analyze how Flannery O’Connor’s religious upbringings in the south influenced her writings with “Revelation” by influencing the character Mrs. Turpin to be a predigest religious extremist.
In “Revelation” by Flannery O’Connor, she uses a character named Mary Grace to envoke a change in Ruby Turpin. O’Connor used violence to allow her, as the writer, to be able to create the right situation for her character (s) to make the critical change: We hear many complaints about the prevalence of violence in modern fiction, and it is always assumed that this violence is bad thing and meant to be an end in itself. With the serious writer, violence is never an end in itself. It is the extreme situation that best reveals what we are essentially, and I believe these are times when writers are more interested in what we are essentially than in the tenor of our daily lives.
Using miracles to test the different
To start, the 1st Great Awakening was a religious revival that swept through the American colonies in the early 18th century. It was characterized by a renewed focus on personal conversion, an emphasis on emotional experiences, and a rejection of tradition in the churches. One of the main focal points of this revival was the presence of intense emotional experiences among the believers, including weeping, shouting, and falling into trances. Many people at the time saw these emotional displays as evidence of God's presence and power, and they were certain of bringing many people to Christianity.
Epiphany by definition according to Merriam-webster is “a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something; an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking”. Epiphanies can sometimes be spiritual, sometimes not, but they help the individual understand something to their core. Boyd K Packer said, “True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior, ” (1). When something is truly understood, an epiphany, we are fundamentally changed. In the novel Jesus ' Son, the main character Fuckhead has several moments of understanding about his life and the world around him.
There has been an ongoing argument about if seeing is believing or if it isn’t. They have there own interpretation on what believing is. I would argue that seeing is not believing. When you see an illusion or something that plays with your mind it is not real. If i saw a card trick i would think it’s cool
Book of REVELATION, is the last book of the Bible. The word ‘Revelation’ is derived from the Greek word ‘apokalupsis’ which means “a disclosure, or unveiling, and this book unveils Christ and the mystery of His return to earth as the Judge. This revelation was given to the apostle John while he was in Roman-imposed exile on the Island of Patmos in the eastern Mediterranean around 95 A.D. The book of Revelation has 22 chapters and the events are arranged in chronological order.
In “Theology,” C.S Lewis discuss that in order to have the right understanding about God we must have not just experience but doctrines. He suggests that a person must have the clearest ideas that he or he can find about God. He compares theology and experiences. C.S Lewis states that people experiencing faith get excited but they don’t get the same excitement when theology is brought up. “People turn from something real to something less real” (364).
What came of them? We tend to explain the mystery mostly by drawing on our spiritual schooling – Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and so on. I as a Hindu
The author made the effort to be as objective as possible, and this is seen in the quality of his work. The anecdotes provided by the author also kept the work grounded in reality and not just in theory, as exemplified by the recounting of the various debates and experiences that both authors has engaged in. As a fairly comprehensive introductory book about Christian Apologetics, the Resurrection, and the profound effect of this particular faith on millions of people all over the world, one can easily see that its success is merited and its purpose fulfilled. The impact that it could leave the reader was apparent, and it was pursued aggressively and excellently by the two authors in a manner that relates to both the doubters and the
Post-mortem appearances occurred under various circumstances, at various times and locations, and the multitude of individual witnesses each exhibited varying emotional states, and maintained differing opinions concerning Jesus. The vast diversity of witnesses includes skeptics (e.g. Thomas), nonbelievers (e.g. James), and opponents of Christianity (e.g. Paul) , all of whom converted to Christianity following personal encounters with the resurrected Jesus. These dramatic conversions, and the drastic alteration in the behavior of the disciples, following post-resurrection interactions with Jesus, remain unexplained by the hallucination hypothesis. The hallucination hypothesis recognizes these transformations, conceding the apostles believed they saw Jesus, yet asserting hallucinations provided the basis of their belief. Recognizing the transformation power of these encounters, the hallucination hypothesis must provide a logical explanation for such transformations, while addressing the diversity of the
How do Scripture and Tradition communicate divine revelation?-faith and religion, faith and feeling, faith and belief (practices, values) If revelation is complete, why does faith (and religion) change over time? According to the short story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, people will pass miracles as if they are nothing due to the different expectations, religious beliefs, and viewpoints of what will occur when a miracle takes place. The author, shows how people would mistaken an angel or a miracle for something else. In the story, Pelayo and Elisenda, a married couple in the story, find “A very old man, lying face down in the mud...impeded by his enormous wings,” (1). Since the man has only few hairs and teeth with “Huge, buzzard wings, dirty and half-plucked,” (1), Pelayo and Elisenda think “He was a castaway from some foreign ship wrecked by the storm,” (1), rather than an angel. The married couple believes angels
The Source of this Miracle We have already disclaimed previous miracles by the fact that they were not performed by that which is divine. That is the necessary element in any miracle; the volition of God. The Lord God is the only true God and anything performed outside of His authority and power is counter-fit. We consider the words of Matthew 10:1 “Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.” We see here that the disciples, being ordinary men, could only perform miracles by the authority of the God Man.
