Depression is a mental illness that carries a negative stigma. Thus, no one wants to talk about depression, and as a result, the people who suffer from depression often do not receive the help that they need in the way they need to be helped. In his speech “Confessions of a Depressed Comic”, Kevin Breel discusses his own depression and the fact that depression is not discussed enough in today’s society. Breel believes that depression needs to be talked about more as it has become a more major problem nowadays. He also feels that the negative stereotype attached to depressed individuals needs to disappear.
Isolation is the process of becoming alone or apart from others (Oxford Dictionaries). It is a scary feeling which can lead to many issues in one’s life, but when people isolates themselves, it can be even more harmful. Having someone to talk to about one’s desires or issues is a very important aspect in developing normally, and avoiding the feeling of isolation. Often times, someone may not have another person to talk to and they tend to keep everything in, to themselves. There is only so much a person can take so when something is kept in too long, it will burst out sooner or later; the results often harming themselves or people around them.
We, as a species have a hard time admitting when we are wrong. How do you live with something that has no cure? Sure, they have medication and counseling that can help subdue the problem for a short time being, but, it’s always there, haunting the corners of your mind. Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD is a somewhat commonly known. People sort of know what it is, but that doesn’t mean that they completely understand what it is. The problem is more People believe the myths of ADD, such as, ADD is more about a lack of willpower, when in factuality, it is so much more complex than simply not wanting to focus.
Suffering-- unfulfilled hopes, dreams, or expectations-- is unavoidable; one can try to minimize suffering, but it may have the opposite results since one has to become a shut-in: one has to shut themselves away from the world and keep social interactions to a bare minimum all to avoid being hurt. A lot of these shut-ins, including Oreki, are depressed and suicidal. Therefore, avoiding pain will just lead to pain--a catch-22 situation--; however, pain is essential because without experiencing pain one will never understand the true meaning of happiness. In fact, taking on challenges is a big learning experience. For instance, if I didn’t take English Honors, I probably wouldn’t have become a better writer.
For instance not exercising, not eating well and drugs. Also about how many people are prejudice about what mental health really is. The reason behind why many people do not examine the full extent of mental health is because they do not think it is a serious illness or just needs medication and everything will be fine. People who live a sustained life-style they are less likely to have the feeling of stigma. And created reasoning on how people face mental health issues with complex cultures is because they come from a ethnic background and it is hard for many of them to have a stable life style.
Relationships play an important role in the quest for the “good life.” According to Robert Waldinger in What Makes a Good Life, “The feeling of loneliness can be toxic” and that those who feel lonely are “more likely to have declining health and memory at an early age.” People who experience these feelings won’t have the healthy and able body that they need in order to reach their “good life.” As Professor Watkins also said in lecture, no one reflects on their experiences in life and says, “Wow! I had a great and lonely life!” Although these people may be happy in specific moments of their life, they won’t be able to emotionally reach their “good life.” Additionally, Waldinger states that “it is not just about having many relationships,
John’s perspective, he pulls out the feeding tube and seems to be uncooperative. The reasoning behind his approach is unknown but there may be some alternative interpretations. Since, Mr. John is suffering from an end stage Alzheimer’s, his cognitive impairment may compromise his decision-making regarding his health (Yeo & Moorhouse, 2010). He may be unaware of the consequences of the action of removing his feeding tube due to his disease progression. The other alternative for his reasoning can be that he was tired of the suffering and that he was aware that the feeding tube wouldn’t decrease his suffering but just prolong his burden of life.
With both of these problems continually getting worse, and very little being done in response, our own society, like that in Unwind, will eventually be desperate for anything to be done to alleviate the growing dilemmas. Nonetheless, this alarming outcome may be avoided; both issues are predominantly fueled by selfishness, and therefore, if Americans put aside self-centered attitudes and helped others, whether by registering as donors, helping at-risk teens, or in some other way, our society would be a much better
They may even smile during tough moments in their lives. At the same time these people may return home and allow their true feelings to show. It is very sad that people believe they need to put on a performance out in public when it comes to their emotions. If and individual is smiling at all moments of the day it does not always mean that they are happy. They make themselves appear to be something that they are not as it is easier to smile than explain why they are crying.
Often, it goes without notice because people don 't want to face the fact or don 't know what is actually going on with them. It 's not an easy task maintaining the pressure of school, friends, family and many more things and the effects from this are often confused with stress. Therefore, it is important that we pay close attention to our loved ones and talk to them to make sure they are not suffering from this horrible thing called “depression”. Many people suffer from depression and don 't actually know it and often ignore the situation. Depression may affect different people in different ways and there are many different cures for individuals who suffer.
