One major change is the world of technology. Our adult children and grandchildren fully embrace that world and live with their new tools every day. They fully embrace their laptop computer, their cell phone, their iPad, and their headphones for listening to their rock music. We can choose to criticize this new commitment to technology or at least be tolerant of this shift in communication and embrace some of these new skills ourselves.
• Recognize that many of the changes we are experiencing are good and positive additions to our world. Many of those positive changes are in the fields of medicine and engineering, for example. We are able to live longer and experience a higher quality of life due of modern medical innovation. The engineering world has helped us improve the quality of our homes, our highways, our of life now because of new innovation, so stop your insistence about being so critical our contemporary world.
• Finally, start to become aware of the many changes in our modern world we have accepted and enjoy them. Start with the increased quality of our automobiles and how comfortable they are to own and drive. Appreciate the improved operation of our modern appliances and approve and endorse these nice developments. Our modern world is certainly a better environment than we have known it

The Progressive Era The Progressive Era, which lasted from 1892 -1920 was a period of wide spread social activism that sought for political reform. Activist sought to remove corrupted representatives and regulate monopolies with an overall objective too further enhanced direct democracy. Change is always occurring in the world because nothing truly ever stays the same. Change is inevitable and occurs naturally. Eventually, old traditions will be broken and change into new traditions that will eventually be broken again. Education was bound to intertwine with technology, as almost everything in the world is slowly become technological. Duke University, back in the very beginning of the twenty-first century, used the new iPod to aid in their academics in a process called the iPod Experiment, which was “a start at finding a new learning paradigm of formal education for the digital era” (Davidson 55).
This topic by Renee Wilson lifts the minds of a huge percentage of people who have read her essay and that of Gregory Levey. It is seen that when comparing both topics, there is a huge controversy. These two topics talk about their opinions on the changes noticed between two generations and its positive and negative outcomes and go ahead to state if they are for or against the impact of technology on students of this generation. These writers have once been teachers before and share diverse experiences. In Renee’s essay “In Defence of the iGeneration”, the title gives the reader a clear idea of what her essay entails.
In her essay “In defence of the iGeneration,” Renee Wilson argues that today’s technology has benefitted not only the students, but also the generation as a whole. The advancement in technology allows for change, innovation and creativity that result in one of the best generations yet. Although Wilson generalizes today’s iGeneration, she succeeds in providing a compelling argument. Much of her argument is supported by scientific evidence and personal experiences that demonstrate the ability of the iGeneration to accept change and provide self-actualization. Wilson’s use of generalizations reveals a degree of disconnect between the current iGeneration and previous generations.
Our technology and the way people have lived their lives have advanced for the duration of many generations, because of the Industrial Revolution in England. Although people may have perceived that the Industrial Revolution incorporated many negative consequences for the society because of long-term injuries and illnesses, it was actually a positive step for the society. The Industrialization’s positive effects were increased productivity of industries, better financial opportunities, and population growth. Finally, these positive effects is what has led the advances of what the people of this generation have currently.
Carr is worried about technology and the effect that it has on the human brains. The essay provides a list of advances that show that change always brings this worry, but it does bring change. Carr does state that some of the changes are beneficial, but people should still worry about them. Nicholas Carr is right when he says that the internet is affecting us by making people’s attention spans shorter and is also affecting critical thinking skills.
In the present global world, we are living in the era of advanced technology like computes, smart phones, TV and so on; and I love that. As early day goes by technology is changed. Technology makes things happen so faster. In the article, “Meet your iBrain,” the authors Gary Small and Gigi Vorgan talk about the current explosion of digital technology and how is changing the way we lives, how we communicate, and it is also rapidly and profoundly altering our brains. “Our brain is evolving right now at a speed like never before” Gary and Gigi.
This generation no longer have to keep remembering every single material they are learning. Or have to go back to the library and spend hours to find the book they used for an assignment. As Kosil and Marcel say, “We are gradually changing from a nation of callused hands to a nation of agile brains … Insofar as new information technology exercises our minds and provides more information, it has to be improving thinking ability” (Source B). This shows people have technology right between their finger tips which enables them to think beyond just the facts. It is no longer only sticking to the facts.
John Freeman wrote an essay called “Not so Fast” and in his essay he explains his different options about modern technology and how he feels about these changes in our world. He describes how fast our modern world is changing and how technology speeds our learning process. The three main points to his essay are speed matters, the physical world matters, and context matters. Although communication and more is becoming a simpler task, I agree with Freeman that technology is becoming out of control because it has taken over some aspects of life and the environment is becoming less important to the U.S. The one and only time I have baby-sat in my life was about a year ago for a family friend’s, kids.
It was a warm spring morning in May when my mother and father headed to the hospital to give birth to a little girl. On May 18th, 1998 at 7:34 a.m. I, Allison Michelle Keitel, was born. A lot has changed in these past 18 years, but growing up in a time period between “the good old day” and technology was one of the best generations to live during. Getting to roll around in mud with my siblings and playing outside everyday was one of my favorite memories, however, my generation is also the first generation to grow up with technology.
What is the difference between a dystopian society to our society? How about the similarities between the two societies? There are definitely many discernible unorthodoxness in a dystopian society versus the “real world” like the fact, that a dystopian society is more grotesque, to the point that it’s boring.
