Speech Event Reflection
I attended a presentation by Student Life/ Southern Poverty Law Center Club at Davidson County Community College on Thursday, February 15th, 2018. The presentation was a lunch and learn about Immigration 101. This event was different than the other because it started off by everyone getting pizza. There wasn’t a formal introduction of the presenter, or what we were talking about we just went straight in to eating pizza. After we sat down the main speaker started reading off the agenda that was listed on the PowerPoint. She motioned to the people in the first row, saying they would talk later. We then went over basic legal terms used when talking about immigration, then debunked negative myths about immigrants. The
When one establishes a connection with their audience, it becomes easier to talk about personal and controversial things just as when she talked about what her husband has gone through regarding his citizenship and religious affiliation. She then implies that Donald Trump is immature and inexperienced to become the president; she reinforces this idea when she subtly implies Donald Trump’s “tendency to lash out” as well as him having an empty record of “public service”. After a series of statements supporting Hillary Clinton as well as the importance of equality and unity, she closes her speech by urging the audience to take part in the

William Jennings Bryan delivered this speech on July 9th, 1896. It was known as the “Cross of Gold” speech. He wanted to use silver for the national currency and not just gold. On March 4th ,1895 a few Democrats addressed the ongoing question of “should silver be used as the national currency?” If so, then the people who believed it should needed to form organizations and take charge to make silver the national currency.

During the Progressive Era, women began reforms to address social, political, and economic issues within society. Some addressed the issues with education, healthcare, and political corruption. Others worked to raise wages and improve work conditions. Among these (women) is Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader of the women’s suffrage movement. Beginning her career as a national women’s rights activist in 1890, she was asked to address Congress about the proposed suffrage amendment shortly after two years.
The various ideologies of love mentioned by speakers in Plato’s Symposium portrayed the social and cultural aspect of ancient Greece. In the text, there were series of speeches given by Phaedrus, Pausanias, Eryximachus, Aristophanes, Socrates, and Agathon about the idea of love, specifically the effect and nature of Eros. Within the speakers, Agathon’s speech was exceptional in that his speech shifted the focus of the audience from effect of Eros on people, to the nature and gifts from the Eros. Despite Agathon’s exceptional remarks about Eros, Socrates challenged Agathon’s characterization of Eros through utilization of Socratic Method.

¨Even when our heart aches, we summon the strength that maybe we didn't even know we had, and we carry on; we finish the race. ¨ Boston was devastated when the bombing occurred during the Boston Marathon. Obama´s speech conveys the message that Boston is strong, brave, determined and not to let terrorism destroy our city and people. In the speech the message portrayed to the country is not to be afraid and how as a country we can pull together after a heartbreaking occurrence is conveyed through a variety of literary strategies. Literary devices are used in everything we read and the speech given after the Boston marathon bombing by the President of the United States concentrates on colloquial and dialogue.

Mr. Marbert told the class that there would be a presentation that would be due at the end of the semester but that this presentation could be completed in groups. I was in a group with two other students and we chose to create an informative presentation about essential oils. The presentation was to be presented at the end of November to the class. Each group member chose a specific topic within essential oils and created PowerPoint slides to go along with their topic. The PowerPoint only had a few bullet points per slide and pictures to accompany each slide.
