Catcalling is not a compliment. “Hey! Smile for me” “Sexy legs, baby” “Damn, those ass” this is some of the examples of catcalling. Catcalling is a form of a street harassment that really needs to stop. The issue about street harassment is getting bigger and bigger. I’ve read some articles about street harassment and according to it there are 65% of woman had already experienced it. 23% of these women had been sexually touched, and 10% had been forced to do something sexual. Some countries have said that some men are also a victim of street harassment especially those people who belong in the LGBT community. I’m here in front of you today to deliver a speech about street harassment and I’m going to tell you about the negative effects and what people are going to do about it. So what is street harassment? Street harassment is an unwelcome and unwanted comments, remarks or staring towards a stranger in a public places. It has a lot of impact for us, women. This disrespectful action may cause us depression, anxiety, feel disrespect, sleep disturbance, and more. Street harassment is a very big problem, nowadays. We should not sit down here and do nothing about it. Men and women should educate what’s the appropriate and respectful way to communicate in public. Why? Because this is the root of this issue. People would not be involve with this problem if they know how to give respect to everyone. Some women are now afraid to walk home alone, because they feel that they’re not
The LGBTQ community is one that faces an ongoing storm of stereotyping and stigmas and the media is no relief from it. One major factor in this is the common trope of the violent and aggressive transgender woman, which is often shown through
Men definitely do not like being turned down. They start off with nice comments but as soon as you ignore them and do not pay any attention to them, they start yelling rude and unappealing messages at women. This is something that happens all the time and there really needs to stop. I feel uncomfortable being by myself in public due to this harassment that goes on. I want to be able to go somewhere for once without being harassed by
Even in my local community, I had the chance to participate in protests and events to show my support. I have attempted to actively work for these causes in the tradition of Ida B. Wells. In addition, I have focused my attention on the present issues in the Transgender community. To the best of my knowledge, I have attempted to educate myself about the injustices these individuals face, the laws that will affect their livelihoods, the statistics of homelessness in Trans communities, and other predominant issues that infiltrate their community. In the present day, Americans of many backgrounds face discrimination and injustices, and I feel that it is our job to educate ourselves on these problems and combat them in many ways, just like Ida B.
IOWA Iowa is full of some really cool things. Like ice cream even though that ice cream is probably (hopefully) in every town there is somewhere to get ice cream. One Great place to get ice cream is Whitey’s Ice cream in Des Moines and Over the top in Iowa city. Now I 'll tell you more about Iowa. There is more things to do in Iowa then eat of course.
The article, “Street Harassment: Current and Promising Avenues for Researchers and Activists”, expresses the great frustration that women go through while trying to bring awareness to the topic. By using specific word choices and sharing personal experiences, statistics, and studies, Dr. Laura S. Logan successfully uses ethos, logos, and pathos to reveal women's victimization when facing street harassment. Women of all
All women should be treated how they treat themselves. What I mean by this is that if a woman does not treat herself with any self-respect than why should she receive it from anyone. This related back to the documentary in that women in these rap videos are being portray in a sexual matter that allows them to be disrespected by men. My stance on this is that if a woman wants to go on camera and throw her self at a man she is not respecting herself and therefore cannot demand respect form anyone else. If they are getting paid to allow these men to do what ever they want to them then why should they have respect for them.
Now you are part of the team. Then the fame and the glory come flying at you. Most of the time this fame gets to you and your head and you slowly start to go tumbling downhill. This is a common theme among young and upcoming high school lacrosse stars. According to Lax Power, nearly 70% of the high school lacrosse stars end up outraging their coaches mid way through their career, while the other 30% race away from the sport all together.
This wasn’t the first or last time I have been attacked in my life. The only saving grace I had after these events was my community – other queer people like me. Now, as a college student in my mid-twenties, it has been increasingly difficult to find and
The speech was a very informative speech, addressing students with various facts and praises of the foundation of North Carolina Central University. NCCU is in fact praiseworthy. In 1910, James E. Shepard founded NCCU under the unique name, “National Religious Training School and Chautauqua for the Colored Race”. James E. Shepard was a pharmacist and religious educator, whom graduated from Shaw University, and later on in 1895, he married his wife Annie D. Shepard. Mrs. Shepard was the one who wrote the lyrics to North Carolina Central University 's Alma Mater, “Dear Old N.C.C”.
Canada is often referred as one of the lowest crime rated countries in the world and it’s also considered one of the safest countries in the world, but there are crimes that often happens but they are not reported one of those crimes is sexual harassment and assault. Case law in Canada pertaining to sexual assault and harassment are not capable to act as a punishment since these laws often favoured the perpetrator because most of the victims are ashamed to speak out therefore these acts continue to be pervasive in Canada. The Ontario human rights code states that everyone has the rights to be free from sexual discrimination based on sex which includes sexual assault/harassment. However, history has shown that people have overlooked it. One of the most
Harassment and abuse are considered breaches of human rights and occur in all countries. According to Encyclopedia of Psychology, sexual abuse is unwanted sexual activity with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of victims who are not able to give consent. Most of victims and perpetrators know each other. In sport, women athletes are more frequent victims of harassment and abuse than men athletes. Many women athletes drop out of sport rather than continue being subjected to the constant harassment and abuse.
During the Progressive Era, women began reforms to address social, political, and economic issues within society. Some addressed the issues with education, healthcare, and political corruption. Others worked to raise wages and improve work conditions. Among these (women) is Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader of the women’s suffrage movement. Beginning her career as a national women’s rights activist in 1890, she was asked to address Congress about the proposed suffrage amendment shortly after two years.
How Rhetoric Strengthens an Argument Throughout her article, Logan uses many pieces of rhetorical principles to convey her point. In her writing, Logan focuses on the concepts of street harassment and how we have to strive to create a more inclusive and safe space for people who are subjugated to this provocation. Logan’s use of pathos, logos, and ethos helps communicate her message to the reader in a profound and fervent manner. Pathos is present through the vivid and descriptive stories told about women who have been victims of street harassment. Logos is shown with the analytical statistics and research throughout the reading, and ethos can be seen through the author's credibility and extensive reports from reputable scholars and activists.
Walking down the streets of the city I am faced with the problem head on. It inspired me to propose and lead a school wide fundraiser to raise money for youth homelessness and donate the contributions to Larkin Street Youth Service — a local organization in San Francisco that provides shelter, drug abuse treatments, counseling, transitional living programs, food, clothes, medical care, and drug training to homeless youth. The money was raised through a raffle, as well as through a game of jeopardy where the answers where different gender identities, and sexual and romantic orientations. This game helped to engage and educate the students on the large variety of identities in the LGBTQ community and what each one means. I also wrote and distributed information about youth LGBTQ homelessness so people were more aware of the large problem many LGBTQ youth face.
Imagine entering your local food store and seeing that items most people eat everyday have been discontinued. Items such as coffee, apples, cucumbers and honey are no longer available to consumers. This may not be possible in our generation, but one day it could very well happen. My name is Matt Shaw from the Millsap FFA, and I am here today to talk to you about a major issue that is facing agriculture, the honeybee population.
