A problem in today’s youth that is a big factor is obesity. Obesity is a very crucial and complex situation. The reason behind America’s high obesity rate is because our kids are eating whatever they want, whenever they want without exercise. At such a young age they think it is the right way to live and they carry on those traits to adulthood.

Often times, schools offer foods that are high in sugar, fats and calories, because they are higher in demand and would satisfy the public youth. In addition to that, these junk foods are much more accessible and cheaper than healthier foods. These foods that are high in sugar and fats don’t provide students with the proper nutrients needed for proper brain development and encourages students to eat unhealthy foods, making school a breeding ground for obesity. Children that spend almost half or more of their day at school need to be provided with a healthier lunch that meets their basic dietary needs. In the year 2010, President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama created the “Hunger-Free Kids Act” of 2010, which has created problems among students. In the year 2012, Michelle Obama also created the “Let’s Move Campaign” in order to reduce childhood obesity, and to give students access to healthy food in their school lunches. The “Hunger-Free Kids Act” means that no student should go hungry, and the “Let’s Move Campaign” makes the lunches healthier. Unfortunately, due to the quality and quantity of the meals that the students now receive, more kids are refusing to eat school lunches, and remain hungry during school hours. To combat this issue, an understanding of the psychosocial factors that affect obese children is needed. There would be healthier options which would mean less fats and grease which would help with child weight issues. Students would not be as tired as they are because greasy and fatty foods do make humans tired. This is because your body has to do more work to break down your food than it is getting from the food.
