The one thing to manage when the going gets tough Throughout history people have overcome incredible hardship and prevailed against overwhelming odds. Churchill, Gandhi, Luther King, Mandela and Malala come easily to mind. It's easy to attribute their success to something rare and superior to the rest of us, but that would be a mistake. You can prevail as well, but only if you mangage this one thing. Your mood No matter the situation or time of day we're always in a mood. We describe our mood as happy, angry, elated, purposeful, dispairing, hopeful, apathetic etc. Often our mood changes suddenly as Bill Withers sings in the song “Lovely Day” When I wake up in the morning, love And the sunlight hurts my eyes And something without warning, love Bears heavy on my mind Just this morning I …show more content…
Bill Withers offered a lovely tip about how to create a lovely day. Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day Unused Perspective Mood change often comes simply from changing how you look at something. “I complained about having no shoes, until I saw a man who had no legs.” The key to remember is that nothing out there changes. It's not the situation that changes, but simply how you look at it. Like Shackleton's men, or in my situation this morning, nothing had changed about my situation yet I felt completely different. I woke up feeling negative and an hour later I was positive. The only thing changed was my perspective about situation. The story in my head changed from "this is terrible" to "this is a challenge to enjoy." It might take you a while to become good at transforming bad moods to good ones or navigating from a bad one to a good one. I think it helps if you're connected to the work that you're doing and how it's helping more than just yourself. Idea is that it's how you look at things that make you feel however you
In the short story, “Excerpt from Katerinas Wish” by Jeannie Mobley, main character Trina’s mood changed from disappointed at the beginning of the story to astonished towards the end. For example at the start of the passage Trina’s mood was disappointed because in the text it states “Papa had dreamed of a thriving farm where we would live well. He had imagined acres of green fields, not the dry, barren hills of southern Colorado. He had imagined fresh air and sunshine, the bounty of the fertile land filling our larder and our pockets. Instead he spent long days underground, toiling in the unwholesome air of a coal mine.

The winners, however, are those who strive to be the greatest. They know what they want and how they're going to get
He uses many ways to create a mood in this
Milyana Mentor Ms. Brewster June 5, 2023 The mood is an essential aspect of storytelling that can make the reader feel as if they are a part of the story. It creates a sense of an atmosphere and can help the reader feel the emotions that the characters have. The mood is there to help grab the reader’s attention and make sense of the environment. All fiction books use this method, but two novels that used it especially well are Dracula by Bram Stoker and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. To begin, Dracula’s mood is very gloomy and dark.
No matter who you are you apparently can’t win through a situation like this; however, I learned otherwise. I’ve recently learned from many experiences in life that whatever situation you’re in with obstacles
The words of others can often move us. Words can mend broken bonds, show others how we feel, and most importantly, the words of others can inspire change in our hearts. Pelé once said, “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” This quote by Pelé has often been the mantra of my life.
When put in difficult situations, the human race appears to be able to achieve just about anything. Whether it be a task as great as overcoming racism or tyranny, society as a whole has with the idea of the human spirit. Without it, the determination to overcome any form of despotism would not exist. As displayed in the Moon is down, Antigone, and by Martin Luther King Jr, when faced with the impediments of life, the human spirit tends to persevere in order to triumph over oppression.
Although being extremely intelligent suggests that an individual knows how to think doesn’t mean that they know how to choose what to think about. In David Foster Wallace’s commencement speech to college graduates, he explains to them that they must become aware of others and by doing so must learn how to think. Receiving an education doesn’t only include learning subjects such as science or math, but also controlling what and how you think about your everyday life and surroundings. Changing the way you think influences how you view others and the way you experience life. By changing their thoughts to take account of others each individual must go against how they have been thinking their entire lives, only about themselves.
When I had this realization, it made me feel bad, and I was suddenly extremely thankful for the opportunity to change my perspective. I truly believe that I became a different person that day, and I think that it was a change for the better. I began to be more positive and I tried looking at everything as an opportunity to spread happiness to others as well as myself. Regardless of the reason for it, a change in your perspective really leads to a change in your life.
What a lovely, lovely day! Aren't the clouds, beautiful?" This expresses Anne is being positive because she is being joyful and forgetting about what's happening during her time. It could also mean Anne views the world as a beautiful place and loves days like that and wishes that it could be peaceful, just a conclusion of
This can be seen in the following three stories as well. “Where Is Here” by Joyce Carol Oates, “House Taken Over” by Julio Cortazar, and “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe all show transformation from how the setting and the mood is normal and changes to
Jackson talks about how perfect the day was. Jackson states, “The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summers day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green” (255). This is foreshowing a perfect day, but really, it’s not. It’s a tragic, sad day which we will soon come to find out. Another example would be when Jackson talks about how the kids start to pick out the best rocks.
When people have a bad or disappointing day, do they lack self-confidence? It does not matter who someone is, people should always look on the bright side and carry an encouraging attitude no matter the situation that lays ahead. Through the country song “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” by Travis Tritt, he understands people may have non-successful days, but looking at what he personally has in life, he is thankful and knows the joyful days are yet to come. The poem “I, Too” by author Langston Hughes, illustrates how discrimination is more than difficult, but having confidence in oneself and the people around will get through the hard times. In the song “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” and the poem “I, Too”, both have the message of having confidence in life.
There are many incidents one met in life that change the whole concept of living. Similarly I had an incident which not only change my vision towards life but also to the words you speak and how much they hurt someone enough that you then regret of saying them. It was a very dull morning for me.
