On the day of his release having spent 27 years of his life, fighting for the democratic freedoms which we all enjoy today, our late President Mandela said :
“I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your hands.

Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president, Nobel Peace Prize winner, anti-Apartheid icon, a husband and father, passed away after a long illness on Thursday the 5th of December 2013 at his Houghton home in Johannesburg at the age of 95.

Tata Madiba, as he was fondly referred to by so many who loved him, lived a rich, fearless and fulfilling life. He brought change to our country that could never have been imagined. His unique vision, leadership, love and humility helped destroy a pariah, apartheid state and inspired the birth of our rainbow nation. His was truly a good story to tell.

Few people have had as significant an impact on modern history as Madiba did. History will remember him as one of the greatest men who ever lived – an incredibly selfless man who sacrificed so much of his lifetime to re-write the history of generations of South Africans, shaping a bright new future for years to come.
