In this city the languages you don't speak are the cuisines you eat. If you must summarise the diversity of street food in mumbai it could be something like; Maacher Jhol living next to the Dosas, and the dosas neighbouring Puran Poli, and the Puran Polis residing adjacent to the parathas, dhansaks, dhoklas, which is living next to the biryani. Focussing on the history of food in mumbai for a second takes us to the fishermen and fisherwomen. What was on their plate was quite straightforward and simple, they helped themselves to fish curry and and rice with a portion of vegetables.
