Sport is a fundamental component of the socio-economic development of a country. It provides the people of the country with improved health, productivity and entertainment. It also helps to reduce medical expenses, enhance social cohesion and also create great leaders. One of the most important things it does is attract major events, such as the soccer world cup, which boosts infrastructure, generates employment, creates players and athletes and improves tourism. However, recently Minister Mbalula announced there will be a ban on rugby, cricket, athletics and netball teams from bidding for major events due to them not reaching their transformation targets. This act has sparked major debates around South Africa and could possibly put South Africa …show more content…
Coaches are also upset about this, because they have to sacrifice some extraordinary athletes in order to fulfil their race quota. Not only will coaches be upset but the team’s performance will decrease dramatically due to the influx of less experienced players. During the Rugby World Cup 2015, the team faced a lot of scrutiny due to them fielding a lack of black people. Out of a team of 31, only nine were black. The team’s transformation target was set at 50% white and 50% black but this was not reached. The reason for the lack of black players was due to their lack of skills and international experience in order to play well at international level. In order for the coach to ensure that the team would achieve the best results and maintain their sponsors, he chose the squad based on skill and experience. The coach was called racist due to them fielding a lack of black players, but the real reason to this is not because of race but actually talent and …show more content…
This could be dangerous as people will believe that they are right, but they are not seeing the full picture. This can cause conflict and chaos and could move the country backwards. It is therefore essentail for people to analyse all perspectives before coming to their conclusion, because they could’ve been completely wrong. Thus, the only way in solving such an issue is for everyone to understand the all perspectives in order to move forward as a

Although people believe that history should be shown from the winning side, it is better to show multiple perspectives, if not it can cause false
Depending on the person, time, and venue every view of a situation is different. Some people tend to stick to one perspective, never daring to try and see things from another point of view. They can’t see past their nose, so to speak. Others change their perspective often. Sometimes a person's outlook relies on how that person is feeling in the moment.
Consensus may work in some predicaments but insisting it works in all is preposterous. When all is said and done, consensus is not the most effective strategy for decision making, it suppresses creativity, is rarely suitable, and compromises morals and values. In order to be successful, coming up with a resolution should be focused on the whites and blacks rather than the greys. Some things are better kept on paper like consensus
The moral benefits of organized sports are also mentioned in “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”, a speech by an African delegate of a British colony in South Africa (Doc 4). The delegate states “Great moral lessons can be learned on the cricket and rugby fields… In a rugby game the players sometimes pack into one inseparable whole… and press forward with… a steadiness of purpose. There is perfect union.” In his speech, the delegate is expressing the use of teamwork in the sport of rugby, and how the sport itself teaches an important life lesson about cooperation.
However, if we implement some of the solutions mentioned the political polarization
Many argue over what they believe is the solution. Many disagreements have came up but everyone can agree that something needs to be
The europeans who came in and messed everything up now think that blacks cause all of the bad things in South Africa and think they need to protect themselves from it. “We shall live from day to day, and put more locks on the doors, and get a fine fierce dog when the fine fierce bitch next door has pups, and hold on to our handbags more tenaciously”(135). This shows what the white people think the black people in South Africa. They think that they must use multiple locks to be safe from the blacks in South Africa They also believe that the will attack them and steal all there stuff as they walk through the city. “They are murderers, thieves, bootleggers, and prostitutes.
The essence of decision making – and, in turn, the essence of politics – is compromise: compromise in both positive and negative aspects of a possible solution. And in every decision- making process, the most efficient way may not be the one that is most followed. People may follow suit to others, depending on their beliefs, on their personal inclinations, and their opinions on the matter. And yes, these idiosyncrasies in every individual eventually show themselves as they decide on the matter as a whole. Less-informed people, on that matter, are more likely to choose a less efficient solution, yet there are exceptions for both parties: more informed people are also likely to give out more convoluted solutions to simple problems.
As this is an international event the cost of hosting it is huge. For instance, the total output of the 1976 Montreal Games was $1.48 billion whilst the 2012 London Games was an insurmountable $14.6 billion. Stadiums are built for different disciplines, and national representatives are invited to perform in the opening and closing ceremony, As a result the stadiums need a high level of security. In this essay I will be debating about the benefits and consequences of the Olympic Games. The three main points which will be covered are; where the hosting country receives the money from, whom it will benefit, and what it does to the country.
Competitive sports provide a community which kids can work with and beat other teams with. “Playing a sport helps children develop social skills which would benefit them even when they grow older. Playing sports teaches them about teamwork and cooperating with others. They learn to interact with people from different ages” (Mahaseth). When these kids grow up, they can use these skills to be able to cooperate and talk with their colleagues.
The train is clearly divided between “Europeans” and “non-Europeans.” A direct quote from the book states, “As all trains in South Africa are, it was full of black travelers. On this train indeed there were not many other races. For the Europeans of this district, they all have their cars and hardly traveled by trains anymore,” pg. 43. There are many more examples of segregation on the train such as when, “Kumalo climbed into the carriage for non-Europeans, already full of the humbler people of his race…” pg. 43
Sports have contributed to the society in many ways. It is not all about playing the sports for physical benefits. As mentioned by Nelson Mendela ““Sport has the power to change the world,” Sports have positively contributed to the society in many ways. Since the 19th century sports in Singapore played a vital role in engaging the different ethnic groups. This was made possible through the various communal groups such as Chinese swimming club, Indian association, Malay football club and others.
Since the 1990s, the growing importance of sport, its impact as a global business and the huge amounts of money involved in the staging of events such as the Olympic Games and football World Cups, has also attracted the attention of investigative journalists. The
There are millions of foreigners in South Africa, with majority being black foreigners and they have come to be seen as a serious threat to the impending economic health of the country. They are seen to be wiping off public services while persistently deteriorating the economy for their own self-interested survival. There is a certainty that the socioeconomic problem created by the coming in of African migrants is not manageable. With the high
