Sport is a fundamental component of the socio-economic development of a country. It provides the people of the country with improved health, productivity and entertainment. It also helps to reduce medical expenses, enhance social cohesion and also create great leaders. One of the most important things it does is attract major events, such as the soccer world cup, which boosts infrastructure, generates employment, creates players and athletes and improves tourism. However, recently Minister Mbalula announced there will be a ban on rugby, cricket, athletics and netball teams from bidding for major events due to them not reaching their transformation targets. Coaches are also upset about this, because they have to sacrifice some extraordinary athletes in order to fulfil their race quota. Not only will coaches be upset but the team’s performance will decrease dramatically due to the influx of less experienced players. During the Rugby World Cup 2015, the team faced a lot of scrutiny due to them fielding a lack of black people. Out of a team of 31, only nine were black. The team’s transformation target was set at 50% white and 50% black but this was not reached. The reason for the lack of black players was due to their lack of skills and international experience in order to play well at international level. In order for the coach to ensure that the team would achieve the best results and maintain their sponsors, he chose the squad based on skill and experience.
