The current American system of public education is effective in terms of development and providing opportunities, but fails to teach and provide knowledge about bigger real world skills that are necessary to have in the real world. Along with this, the public education system requires kids to live in an atmosphere that brings vibes of extreme toxicity at some times, and peace and refuge at other times. Whilst living in this environment, the public education system also provides students with opportunities to prosper and develop in sports.
The public education system in place right now in America is a subject prison. All students are forced to take and learn the main subjects in school, math, english, history, and science, but are not required

Though sports are not directly related to learning and are not part of the required curriculum whatsoever, sports give students great opportunities for development and social interaction, along with an opportunity to become a great athlete. Being on a team requires communication and social interaction skills that if you do do have when you first become involved, they will certainly be developed. These skills that can be developed within athletic organizations such as these are skill that can and will be utilized in the future in almost everyone's life. Along with the developmental skills that will be learned from sports, high school sports are a great opportunity for athletes to be scouted and discovered by higher level organizations such as clubs and colleges. Those athletes who truly are gifted will be discovered and given exposure and may be given the opportunity to compete at a college level. I personally know several people who have gone on to play division II and division I college sports. Therefore, the public education system is very effective in terms of development and possible new opportunities that may arise from being involved in
Dr. Daniel Gould, director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, in his essay “Are High School Sports Good For Kids?” argues that problems with high school sports are beginning to outway the benefits.. He supports his claim by providing evidence of how sports are beneficial to kids, explaining the problems within sports, and extending the importance of what creates a positive response from sports. Gould’s purpose is to inform coaches, principals, and parents about what makes sports beneficial and how to prevent the problems in order to allow kids to learn and become better citizens. He establishes an informative tone for coaches, principals, and parents.
Public schools across the nation are wasting their money on equipment and better facilities, but they are forgetting what matters the most which is each students education. In the Documentary Stupid in America, they said that a lot of schools spend a lot of money a professional pools, and well equipped gyms, but all of the extra money sent to the public schools did not help improve test scores (Stupid in America). They also stated that small charters schools do not have gyms, pools, even, buildings, but they are still able to outperform student attending other public educations (Stupid in America. Schools are not doing enough not maximize their funds on just the children 's education and not hobbies or sports. There are many public schools that
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
Courtney Stawarz says, “Sports are important, I understand that. However, Elizabeth Kolbert has a valid argument.” She says, while Americans tend to put more emphasis on sports rather than learning, it is not the children that are at fault. She sees how sports are related to grades being you have to make sure you are eligible to play. Children have to watch their grades in order to be able to play sports in schools.
Sports have been a part of America for a long time. Long enough that they are big part of American’s culture. When the word “sports” is mentioned to any American, the first thing that comes to mind are sports at a professional level, mean while forgetting the National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) athletes. Surprisingly, America has the unique value of being able to play sports on a high level while going to college. No other country has that privilege.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
The Director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports,Daniel Gould in his Article, “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” suggests that high school sports are an integral part of American society. He supports this claim by first saying how sports have educational benefits, then talking about their effect on the child as a citizen, and finally claiming that sports give adolescents increased aspirations. Goulds purpose is to illustrate the benefits of children taking part in school sports. He adopts a analytical tone an older audience.
In her response to Amanda Ripley, she states that she agrees with her because of the ironocy that is involved between sports and academics. In sports students are expected to “show just how well they can when expectations are high and they put their minds to it,” however, the same expectations are expected for their academics and they can work just as hard for it, which reflects on their test scores. Students should be expected to work harder for their academics, because it is something that will guarantee their future financially. They could go into sports and do a couple of years for pro sports, but that never lasts long. Education is what separates the ignorant from the wise person, and in this case what is the point of going to school for long periods of time so that one ends up kicking around a ball ?
Privatisation of sports would “cause the greatest long-term losses for those whose families are not able to bear the costs of participation outside of the public school system (Kniffen).” A similar example would be making it so school lunches were not provided by the school, but an independent contractor who does not offer discounted rates for students in need. These are the students who have the greatest obstacles to overcome when they enter the workforce and having the opportunity to play sports can give them the leg up that they need. School sports can provide lasting benefits such as higher pay and better positions once the former athletes enter the workplace as Kiffen states “people who played for a varsity high school team tend to earn relatively higher salaries later in life.” By participating in school sports employers infer that the employee or applicant has leadership and other unquantifiable skills beyond that of a
Did you know that depending on the sport, students who play sports in college most likely have less than a 2% chance of becoming professional athletes? At middle schools, high schools and colleges across the country, everyone is arguing over whether or not students with failing grades should be allowed to play sports. In my opinion, a good education is so very important for our country’s youth, especially the athletes. Not a lot of kids are good enough to play in the top college sports programs in the country. But even those who are, still have an astonishingly low chance at making the professional leagues.
(Daniel Bowen and Colin Hitt, The Atlantic) American schools put too much importance and emphasis on Sports. Students have the resources to excel yet they are choosing to play sports instead. "Nearly all of Jenny’s classmates at Shawnee are white, and 95 percent come from middle- or upper-income homes. But in 2012, only 17 percent of the school’s juniors and seniors took at least one
American Education System Many Americans would argue that America is the best country in the world. Yet statistically speaking, the United States is low ranking in the education division. Surprising right? Well, maybe not. “Sixty six percent of all U.S. fourth graders scored "below proficient" on the 2013 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) reading test, meaning that they are not reading at grade level.
In 2010, the U.S. spent almost thirty one percent more per full-time student for elementary and secondary education than the average for other countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Yet, more money spent doesn’t translate to better educational outcomes. But the social norms, financial state and other factors contribute to the large disparity amongst students. It’s a problem everywhere in the world and not just in the United states itself. Education is really a human right and is essential for learning and is a human right init of itself.
According to this article, education is an important issue for nearly all Americans. However, we often discuss it superficially and seek comprehensive solutions as we change our minds about what the central tasks of schools are, and we are insure how important school itself is in children’s education. Hence, the school deliver what society wants, but slowly and incompletely, so, in this century society has a set of four principles with different goals for our schools. 1990-25: Assimilation.
So, this what i find in USA's education. In fact, the education in USA has a lot of beneficial system that attract me such as it contributes to increase in production, as boys and girls are taught to respect for productive work and the belief that they can rise in economic standing through work, effort and the desire to go where opportunities exist. USA public schools apply the best quality models in education and are role models in all educational systems in the world. I am talking here about primary and secondary schools. For example, the views about my children in USA’s school and their way of assimilation of information quickly, however they are not perfect for the English language, but that did not prevent them from understanding easily.
