With the right coach, athletes can focus on building character and setting goals, such as winning, while still being able to enjoy playing sports without consistent pressure. During an Institute for the Study of Youth Sports analysis, studies showed that, “outstanding high school coaches who were recognized for the character and citizenship building contributions to players we found that these individuals were highly successful (winning over 70% of their games)” (Gould). While students centered on playing hard and showing sportsmanship, they were able to win a majority of their games, instead of just focusing on winning. Thus, students can grow in character when playing high school sports. To emphasize this, youth athletes develop goal-oriented mindsets during the season.
A game without support is not a real game and is not as much fun as if there were supporter. Of course, fans are not everything, and an athlete should be able to play and fight hard even though there is not any support since it is their job to play for the college and in the best-case win. Every athlete receives a scholarship for playing for the school and for which all students are thankful. However, investing in facilities would bring more support to each game and therefore the atmosphere would increase. That is what athletes work for, a though game with people who support them no matter what and where they have to push through this situation to win this game.
What are the health risks of playing health school sports? The dangers of playing high school sports are now higher than ever. The amount of injuries has risen “Since 2000, 145 high-school football players have died from football-related injuries.” This quote is showing how dangerous high school football has now become one of the most dangerous high school sports. “Six have already dies this fall” according to Travis Waldron. “Ben Hamm and Kenny Bui both died from head trauma, Evan Murray suffered a lacerated spleen.
Even though this study was done with college students, the same results would happen to younger students. The only difference is some young children do are not able to work out on their own time, so the time they have for physical activity is gym. Having longer gym classes is important for getting good grades, relieving stress, and making kids healthier. Love it or hate it, the facts are gym and physical activity can help people and kids have a better life overall. People should just try that gym class, even though they won’t think they like it.
There is a high risk of concussions when playing middle school sports. Concussions from sports have tripled in the past decade, according to The Journal of Pediatrics, Pressure on Teen Athletes Soars. This means that students who play football, basketball, volleyball and wrestling are more at risk of getting a concussion than students who don’t play any sports at all. If we get rid of these sports, there will be more kids participating in other activities such as Stuco or Science Olympiad. Some symptoms of a concussion include : nausea, dizziness, depression, trouble concentrating and more importantly, they would have
Also, it takes away from family time because they will always be playing their sport. Youth sports cause many injuries in children. “Over 448,000 football-related injuries to youths under 15 are treated in hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and emergency rooms annually” (Inetwork, 2017). This number is way too high. Every year, more than 3.5 million children under the age 14 need treatment for sports injuries, with nearly half of all sports injuries for middle and high school students caused by overuse(Inetwork, 2017).
Value of Sports and Visual Arts In today's society, high school sports are highly valued. With sports comes recognition, good health, and so much more. Although sports provide many positives for growing teens, they are too glorified. Too much funding and support from schools and communities go into the sports program, and while many programs out of school allow kids to take part in sports, rarely are there any that involve acting, music, and art. The art programs, specifically music, teach creativity and have the benefit of helping with math and science skills.
Some think that kids shouldn’t be involved in competitive sports and others think the opposite. Research shows, however, that playing sports lowers the percentage of obese children and gives them a healthier lifestyle, because of the many valuable lessons kids can learn from them and because competitive sports boost up your confidence and self-esteem and make kids work at their best effort in everything. One reason why kids should be involved in competitive sports is because it could help stop the cases of obesity in children and allow them to have a healthier lifestyle. According to an article called “What are the Benefits of Competitive Sports for Youth?” from LiveStrong, “Millions of American children and teenagers are overweight. This
The expression argument is great, but this expression can cause students to focus too much on their outfits instead of actually focusing on studying and learning in school. The professional look gives off the impression that the student is smart and a promising member of a society that will benefit the future. This will boost overall performance in the school due to such a positive meaning. Uniforms also have been shown to increase attendance and graduation rates. “YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Requiring students in urban public high schools to wear uniforms results in increased attendance, higher graduation rates and fewer student suspensions” (Campus Safety Staff).
A team that goes undefeated might be more talented than a team that is winless, but it is possible that the winless team will develop and grow more than the undefeated team. While wins are important, individual player development, team unity and cohesion, and the development of sportsmanship are all ways to determine success. If a player struggles to understand basic offensive schemes and concepts at the beginning of the year, but can explain these same schemes and concepts to others coherently by the end of the year, this is a form of progress, and therefore, a small victory. Similarly, skill development and improved performance are also important ways to determine
