The Problem and its Setting
INTRODUCTION
People have only 24 hours in a day, time is a finite resource that has to be well managed. There is a time for everything, a time to do academic tasks, a time to play and a time to do all things that you have to finish. However, other people thinking that it is hard to apply time management in their life. For examples the athletes who is combining sports and academics everyday. So that students particularly the athletes must have a responsibility to balance their sports and academics. According to Vidmar (2004), “although time is limited, its important to find some downtime between practice and homework so that you refuel before beginning schoolwork”. Descriptive research describes a certain present condition. Relatively, the method is appropriate to this study since it aims to describe the present condition of technical analysis as it is used in the stock market. The technique that was used under descriptive method is the normative survey approach and evaluation, which is commonly used to explore opinions according to respondents that can represent a whole population. The survey is appropriate in this study because it enables the researcher in formulation of generalizations. The direct-data type of survey is a reliable source of first-hand information because the researcher directly interacts with the participants. The questionnaire survey respondents were given ample time to know the Time Management Strategy Use in Balancing Sports and Academics of the Volleyball Players. Based on the results of this study, the researchers ha derived the following conclusion.
A. Most of the varsity players experiencing challenges in their academics because of their sport career. They are always absent, feeling stress, sleepless and pressured in their class.
B. They cope up on the different challenges by using different time management strategy. Most of them are balancing sports and academics by spending enough time on their academics and sports. They are also prioritizing first what will they work on before go to the next tasks.
C. In this research the researchers find out that time management is an effective strategy in balancing sports and academic tasks. Just because of the different responses or answer of the respondents.
Based on the results of this study, the researchers have some recommendation to the
Imagine you are a college athlete; your daily routine would consist of an early wake up and a practice. After the morning practice, you have to go to all of your classes. Then, since you are failing a few of classes, you have a tutoring session. Lastly, to finish your day off, you have more practice which will likely end late. Athletes have to follow this routine the whole school year.
According to " The Case Against High-School Sports" (2013), sports could create some study, health, and time management problems for schools and students. In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Next, she gave some schools ' examples to show the problems when schools and students spent too much time and money in high-school sports.
Sports and school take up almost all of their free time. The extra time they have is used for things like sports conditioning at a gym or studying. “The typical Division I college football player
College athletes spend 75% of their time on the sport they are participating in. They are constantly overworked and pushed through routines that are on professional levels. Not only are they participating in sports but also attending the school. They are still students but they miss that extra time that other students get to use to study and prepare for their classes.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
On a day-to-day basis student athletes are required to maintain a healthy balance between their respective sport and their schoolwork, which is difficult. A typical student-athlete schedule includes waking up early, attending classes, going to practice, lifting,

Allocating time for your personal agenda is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It is proven that creating time for yourself will increase your happiness. This will help you function better throughout the day, and will enable a student to do things he/she pleases to do, example read a book. Better time management will allow a student to join clubs or activities of their choosing, and not just join the ones which improve marks. Studies have shown that students with more time on their hands will join a club of their choosing rather than the ones that so the most benefit with the least amount of effort.
College athletes can put as many as 60 hours a week at games and practices (Majerol 15). This causes the athletes to put less of a focus on their school work to focus on their athletics. Many of the top athletes never even finish their degree after playing for four years (Cooper 12-13). College athletes are encouraged to sign up for easier classes. They attend “independent study courses” that involve very little work to pass the class (Neuhauser 11).
This piece of writing was also persuasive because of the rhetorical elements that Jonathan R. Cole used. The purpose of this article was to inform why Sports do not mix with elite academics well with background information, credibility, logic, and persuasion. The communicator wanted his audience to be young students because he wanted to explain the reasons why academics and athletics do not work well together and prevent students from making a possible mistake when entering into college. The author uses his credibility as a college professor and previous college athlete to persuade the audience to support his claim. The facts and logic within this article contributes to R. Coles logos.
I learned in this activity how crucial time management skills will be to my ability to complete this course successfully. The analysis from the questionnaire (Table 2) as well as keeping a record of what activities I focus on for a couple of days, opened my eyes to a few areas of improvement. From the patterns observed I could see that most of my time was taken up by work and commitments as well as procrastination. Not being able to juggle theses successful led to irritation and was unproductive. Research suggests that managing ones emotions, being self-aware and self-motivate can be factors for success for a student (Allan, 2009).
This teaches both good work ethic and responsibility because these individuals learn how to productively manage their time. Time management is an essential part of being successful. Exceptional athletes would rather be an hour early than a minute late. This greater supports the argument because down the road this could just as easily be a job interview and because of the habits that have been acculturated through playing sports, they will make a good impression and most likely beat out their competitor. Professional writer, researcher, and lecturer Michael Casey conducted two studies and concluded that “Past participation in high school sports helps youngsters develop a host of crucial skills which give them a leg up as they enter the work world and achieve success for decades afterward” (Casey).

Time management requires someone to prioritize some tasks in some way; one should label some tasks as more imp01iant than others. The key factor in effective time management is usually accuracy because when you have accurate model of reality you are in a position to determine which task is more important than other. You can only realize the real gains in time management at the top but not at the bottom. Inaccurate understanding of reality can make your missions, goals and your projects to be meaningless
Time management is important to have because it helps get work done more efficiently and is a way to manage your priorities. Priorities along with making commitments are also learned from participating in a extra activity. Students learn how to prioritize their work when in activities while also finding a balance of everything else going on in their life; commitment is also learned but showing that a student needs to be 100% involved to put in their best effort to whatever they choose to do and to be be successful doing it. “Various research studies have lined participation in student activities to higher math and english grades, improved grades and homework completion, better performance on math, reading and science test, and an increased likelihood of applying to college” (Annemarie Mannion).
Time management: Time management is a very crucial component if you are willing to have a productive lifestyle. To be honest, I have always had issues with managing my time efficiently. This problem had become a huge obstacle once I got into college. Thus, attending a lecture that focuses on time management helped me a lot with this problem by introducing me to different aspects related to time management: planning, SMART goals, and important/urgent matrix. Learning to make a specific plan for my daily tasks and make a to-do list to make my day as productive as possible is something very helpful which was advised to me by the instructor of this lecture Mr. Irfan.
