Music has been around for many centuries, and it’s one of the many universal languages that allows us to connect with other societies in the world. In the 1920’s, music was only accessible through radio, however, now music can be heard on YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, etc. For instance, Spotify is a platform in which people have access to listen to music from various different artists in the whole universe. Spotify updates the trending music channel everyday in which the new songs are introduced. Spotify is a universal platform because most of the songs have about 1.1 billion listeners which is about 14 percent of the population on this planet. “It ain’t me” is about how once there was a relationship, and now the relationship is over. “Issues” is about how both the people in a relationship have issues that need to resolve, thus foreshadowing that they do not want to go through a breakup either. Instead, they want to take this chance to resolve their issues. Gomez sings that “Who’s gonna walk you, Through the dark side of the morning?...”, she responds with “It ain’t me”. This chorus conveys that she will not help him when he needs her the most, and she has decided to give up on their relationship. Perhaps, he should regret that they broke up because she has helped “walk you [him] through the dark side of the morning”. Michaels sings that “Cause I got issues, but you got ‘em too, … Cause we got the kind of love it takes to solve ‘em”, she depicts how their love has the power to overcome the issues in their relationship. Both of these songs are expressing a complicated relationship in which one of them has already ended the relationship, on the other hand, the other relationship is struggling yet enthusiastic about vanquishing their unresolved issues.
