And also have an assistant help them be a worker in the shop by helping them step by step in the activity. Giving them space and free will to explore is also important to me. I feel giving them space helps them adapt to the environment just as well as children without disabilities.
Lesson Extensions
I can explain that this activity can be done more than just with strawberries in a strawberry shop. The children can talk about what they might sell at different times of the year. This can lead to a discussion of what kinds of food grow at different times of the year. The children may want to start their own little farm in an outside area if there is an area for it. To explore more of the fruit, a field trip can be planned to a strawberry farm where the children can learn more about the fruit and it’s growing process. This could be a stem of a bigger lesson on shop owning/running, currency, or farming in
The children’s characters allow for humor to be inserted into what would otherwise be a very serious narrative if it were happening between adults characters. Also of concern is the overall thematic elements of the story. As stated previously Miss Moore is interested in teaching the children about economics, equality, democracy and race. These lessons are all something that is taught to them against their will. The children want to have an easygoing adventure that has nothing to do with Miss Moore or her ideas.
Sure enough, all of her guests had tip toed passed her room and made their way downstairs to where they were enjoying a great big strawberry cake Miss Bloom prepared earlier. Miss Bloom was pleased to see that her guests had saved her a piece of cake and that they enjoyed her cake so much. Readers will be motivated to do the math and excited to see how fractions play a huge role in everyday life as the Strawberry Inn is filled with exciting guest and as they discover that one delectable strawberry cake divided by five hungry visitors and one surprised hostess equals a special midnight snack at the Strawberry Inn. This book is a piece of cake to read and students will enjoy the charm added by the illustrations.
Last year I worked with kids who have Down syndrome and Autism. I showed them how to play football, soccer, and basketball. While it was rewarding for me, it was even more rewarding for the kids. After a few weeks of basketball, Tom, a kid with Down syndrome, was making shots more often than my basketball team was. From then on, playing basketball put a smile on his face because he knew that his skills wouldn't be looked at differently because of his disability.

For the first activity of the segment is a story time activity. I have chosen the children’s book Koala Lou by Mem Fox as it is a children 's book that clearly explores the theme of family. The book is a great book for children of all ages as it influences a child’s growth and development as it focuses on the skills of speech and language as well as cognitive development. (CHANGE SLIDE)

This is done by ensuring they have an adapted environment and well thought activity which means they can participate just as well as others. I spent my fifteen hours observing two special education classrooms at Sulphur Intermediate School. One focused on math and the other on reading, though many of the children I observed worked in both classrooms. The students were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Most of the students had mild to moderate disabilities and simply needed extra help in reading, math, or both subjects. They did not stay for the entire day, but rather came for certain periods.
