Unfortunately, standardized testing only gives a rough estimate of what a student can do or knows. It is impossible to tell if a student will improve, or even tell if the student just guessed on all of their answers for the test. This explains how standardized tests do not measure the correct information that school’s are actually searching
It is known that people with test anxiety score less with those who don’t. So even if a very bright kids scores poorly due to test anxiety, they are held back. This just proves why standardized tests should not be a requirement to pass a certain
Should teachers be quitting due to the stress of testing? No, because they don't really go through as much stress as the students do when they are testing and the teachers should also be able to handle these things and not just quit because they think it is too complicated(Occupytheory). Does it affect the way teachers teach their classes? Standardized tests do affect the way teachers teach because they can only teach certain things and not what they think that the students might need. Since 2006, overall SAT scores have dropped by 21 points. It is safe to say that the increase in standardized testing has done more bad than good. When standardized testing became more prominent, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) saw a plateau in reading and math scores. Additionally, the NAEP saw no further closure in the test score gap. The test score gap affects all minorities.
Depending on how desperate a teacher is for good test scores, inappropriate preparations can be made before testing, sometimes even to the point of cheating. While having standards and a uniform teaching model, high -stakes testing is generally detrimental to the education of America. The importance of these tests has become the be-all and end-all of high school. The accountability of the testing will follow the student throughout his or her educational life. Despite being held in such high regard, the high-stakes testing effects are far from the desired and predicted
Some downfalls of the public school system are, the unequal amount of funding and resources that can be provided to a school district in a wealthier community compared to in a poor community. Then we have the issue of the school curriculum being too closely related to only the standardized test that provide funding rather than actually making sure the students obtain the education they need. The final problem with the school system is the lack of autonomy in schools, the schools, need to have better social interactions and better collaboration between classrooms to effectively help the students where they struggle. These are all downfalls of the public school system that have major impacts on the final graduation and education a student will achieve over the course of their K-12 schooling
Preparation for the SAT are often said to be the best way to get a high score, but it consists of a student studying on their own and paying four- hundred dollars an hour for tutoring that starts in the seventh grade (Rimer 1). Some parents do not have the money to get a decent tutor for their children. Teenagers who have the money to afford a tutor have better chance of getting a higher score than teenagers who are less fortunate. Teenagers of public education are often limited to resources for the SAT test preparation. The SAT test consist of unrealistic reading questions and complex math problems.
Every year over 1.2 million kids drop out of high school in the United States. One fourth of kids will fail high school in their life. Nobody seems to question why these students are failing, other than that they are not trying hard enough. America 's grading system is flawed compared to the rest of the world, and there is many ways this problem could be fixed. Getting a zero and an assignment drops the final grade on a subject massively, and getting an F means the same score.
