Film and Television are art forms that I have both dedication and devotion towards as it allows me to combine my passions in cinematography, storytelling and music together. My biggest inspiration is director Stanley Kubrick, the film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ began my absorption into the creative world of film.
Television shows such as ‘Hannibal’ have really inspired me due to it’s clever use of mise en scene, Using symbolism such as a stag, which can be seen in statue form in Hannibal’s office directly linking him to the beast. Colour pallets as well as lighting also represent the lead characters from scene to scene. Working within a finite time frame and an efficient group, each with our own dedicated roles. This heightened my skills in managing a small group working as a team, but also as an independent learner.
Also it allowed me to experience all the stages of film production, from development of the script to pre-production, production, post-production and finally distribution, Articulating my skills in all these stages. A-level History plus Government and politics allowed me to an independent learner and thinker by carrying out research into subject areas for the topics I picked to do my essays on.
Having a deep interest in these subjects has shaped my world view and further reading into historical and political articles has given me inspiration for factually based film scripts. I have worked with theatre which has had a profound impact for my love of drama, showing me the importance of costume design and how small details such as colour can help shape the audience opinion on a character. I’ve also been involved with the inner workings of the live production being both the sound engineer and lighting technician. This live experience has given me skills such as remaining focused when working in a high pressure
