I enjoyed reading this book. It is about a young high school student named Stargirl who is incredibly misunderstood. It contains a great message about individuality and standing up for yourself against tremendous peer pressure to conform to who others think you should be. Stargirl is an eccentric, kind, and gentle person who does not conform to the same set of values as the typical student at Mica High School. She is more concerned about connecting with the universe than she is with relating to the other students at school. At Mica High School everyone eats the same, dresses the same, talks the same, acts the same, and no one is different. Stargirl shakes everything up, and the other students do not understand or appreciate her differences
How does Stargirl show conformity in/to the school? Stargirl doesnt show any kind of conformity at all in the school because she will always get up during lunch and sing people Happy Birthday to them even though they dont want to be sang too. Stargirl would bring a pet rat to school every day even though that pets were not allowed in the school. Stargirl would ask the most randomest questions in class and usually they never had anything to do
Courtney Foster Professor Arneson ENG-105 October 5, 2015 Harrison Bergeron vs. Mean Girls Movie We all know what conformity is right? It’t not always something people speak very highly of, and certainly never seen as a really good thing. The dystopian society in Harrison Bergeron and the high school society in Mean Girls don’t particularly see it that way at all. Harrison Bergeron story implies it believe conformity is the best thing for people. Mean Girls shows the opposite, that conformity is more of a personal preference for people who don’t have their own ideas.
Hillari doesn’t like how Stargirl seems to be taking over the whole school because she wants it to be her school, not Stargirl’s
On Wednesday We Wear Pink In life, there will be people like the Plastics in Mean Girls that will tell you, “You can’t wear a tank top two days in a row, and you can only wear your hair in a ponytail once a week...if you break any of these rules, you can’t sit with us at lunch.” High school, as shown in the movie Mean Girls, is a world full of cliques that centers around one ultimate ruler, Regina George. Janis Ian, the ‘outcast’ of the film, noted the school’s ruler as being an evil dictator that if crossed, would administer consequences. Society in school is often portrayed as a struggle between two classes, the popular and the outcasts, with the populars ending up on top.
Noah Dolieslager Period 3 Advanced English Stargirl Thesis In Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl, Stargirl is a homeschooled girl that starts going to a public high school for the first time. At Mica Area High School, all the students are the same. When Stargirl arrives, she is very different compared to the students. After she starts doing weird things, the students start to not like her.
This is shown by students who belong to different social groups. But when they are all together, they focus their time against the school system. For examples, Alison changes her appearance to be more preppy, Claire shows a different side while spending time with Bender, and he shows his emotions while spending time with Claire. The students become conditioned to their surroundings and establish new roles. They transform into the people they would truly be if society had not impose them to whom
Second reason that Stargirl is unique is because she doesn’t wear makeup at school. The last reason is that Stargirl plays the Ukulele because she sings happy birthday to anyone who has a birthday on that similar day. How does Stargirl conform in the public school. The first is
When Leo asked Archie why stargirl was so different Archie said ¨The fact that she is different is a good thing¨. Stargirl is considered different because she dresses differently than all the other girls, sings happy birthday to everyone with her ukulele, and even cheers for the other school in school games. Infact, she did it so much that her classmates got extremely mad and started to
The novel follows Stevie an eleven year old girl who lives in Southside Chicago throughout her middle and high school years. Stevie goes through the social pressure of her peers and family to tell her how to act, think, and look. Slowly throughout
All The Stars Denied Long Jot In my story “ All The Stars Denied” the theme for my book is to Be grateful for what you have. My character’s traits cause conflicts which help enhance the theme. For instance, her stubbornness caused the texas ranger incident, her passion for standing up for herself and all the other Mexican families caused the kids at school to treat her differently than anybody else, and her internal anger caused the cops to make it violent.
In Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli, the protagonist, Leo Borlock’s experiences cause him to change throughout the novel. In his first experience, Leo meets Stargirl—or at least everyone keeps talking about her when she arrives at school. She’s quirky and eccentric and has everyone wondering who she is. Leo and his friend Kevin agree at first to put her on “Hot Seat”, a show they run together where they interview students from their school. However, the next day, popular girl Hillari Kimble is telling everyone that Stargirl is a fake, planted to encourage and excite the students.
Throughout the movie we see the different groups in high school that relate to one another in a way that allows high school to function the way it
Scout proves that adversity strengthens an individual by taking difficult events and giving them a positive outcome, resulting in her becoming a mature adolescent. From the beginning to the end of the novel, Scout blossoms from an innocent young child to a sophisticated young lady. She undergoes situations that she would not have known how to handle when she was younger. Learning to walk away from minor as well as major things has helped Scout take on the adversities she faced in a positive way. Scout demonstrates that when an individual endures hardship, it’s possible to have a constructive outcome and transition into a stronger and maturer being.
As a freshman in highschool, I had never heard of Jane Harper, or read any of her books before this. My English teacher challenged me to pick up a book and read it. Instantly, the cover caught my eye. The book looked like a very compelling novel, so I decided to read it. It just came out in September of 2016, so it is a very new book.
It 's a jaw-dropping book that will leave you wanting more as the author Laurie writes in a crisp and clear way describing the young girl Melinda’s horrific story and how it unfolds. The author 's tone gives off the vibe of a young frighted girl which I find really enhances this sad, but exhilarating story. This story taught me to always speak up for myself and to never let anyone take advantage of me. I would recommend this novel because it is extremely detailed, painting vivid pictures in your mind that really help to magnify and
