Good evening to all my fellow peers, teachers, family, friends & the general community. I’d like to welcome you all to the Marsden State High school graduation ceremony of 2014. My name is Patrick Oboma and I'm more than honoured to have been selected to give this years valedictorian speech. My philosophy in life is to "See great things, be grateful, and achieve greatness."
Body 1: While being a student at State High, I went through many ups and downs. I have met people who brought me up and people that brought me down. Because of this, I realised never to give up on myself, and because of this, there were moments where I failed to achieve my goals or things that didn't go as well as I wanted it to be. However, I would try again and again

Filled with block exams, sports, studying, block exams, 6 assignments crammed into 2 weeks, sports blocks exams, unrealistic expectations, sleepless nights, and block exams.
But other than that, yeah, year 12 has been one of the best years of my life so far. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my peers this year.

As many of you probably don’t know, I come from Uganda. Life was pretty tough; you never know what are over horizon whether it would be rebels fighting, working and breaking sweat every day in the farms or families struggling to find money to pay off their children’s school fees. You wouldn’t understand the struggle that parents back there go through to them so little dollars to pay for their child’s school and often because of this many students do not go off to University or High School because there is no money to support that child. None of you know the struggles that I’ve been through but yeah the struggle is too damn real. Sometimes you just feel like wanting to be that patch of water on the sand banks taking a break from reality. But life goes on and you got to keep battling through those thick muddy dirty waters and find ways to avoid hitting those hard rocks.
Body 2
Exactly 8 years ago my life completely changed. That was when my family moved into Australia. Ever since we got off the plane I see smiles that I didn’t usually see back in Africa, everybody seemed to be so nice and friendly. And I'm starting to like this river that I’m flowing in, flowing smoothly and gently down the stream. Those bright white teeth showing are the beautiful flowers growing on the side of the rivers with all seven colours of the rainbow and glazing above those beautiful blooming
On June 1, 2012, David McCullough Jr. delivered a commencement speech to the graduating class of Wellesley High School. The speech was presented in Wellesley, Massachusetts among the graduates, close family, and friends. McCullough may not be a professional public speaker, but he is a well-known and respected English teacher at Wellesley High. In his speech McCullough made the valid point that graduation is the beginning of life and the long road ahead. The message from that day became known as the “You Are Not Special” speech, and is found to be controversial but memorable.
What we are taught and where we come from, makes up the majority of who we are and helps influence the decisions we perform in everyday society. Proudly, I’m from Kings Mountain, a modest place, as a result of living here it has impacted me in a variety of phenomenal ways, from the way I communicate to the way I act. Due to the fact of living in Kings Mountain, I have been introduced to a variety of opportunities, for example, my current school, Cleveland Early College High School. I have been accepted into outstanding programs that, in turn, has helped me to achieve my objectives and future plans. Although, I attend this tremendous school I tend to envision about how it would have been similar to attending a traditional high school, I was originally suppose to represent Kings Mountain High, but I decided that I wished to pursue something outside of what I considered I could reach.
I attended school at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. It has more students than any high school in Louisiana with about 2500 students enrolled. Lafayette High is also home to the gifted program of the parish as well as a health academy which offers students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various aspects of the medical field and provides them with experience in hospitals. Finally, the school offers a myriad of extracurriculars for students to participate in outside of school hours. I am proud to say that I was a part of the gifted program at Lafayette High and had the opportunity to study under some great teachers.
My Freshman year was the best year ever! I got to be in marching band, FFA, and I got a tremendous academic placing. I definitely did a great job this year compared to last year. I broke out of my comfort zone and worked my hardest to get a high GPA, and join some different clubs. I met new friends and even passed driver 's ed.

Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
When times get tough and adversity is thrown at you like a curveball all you can do is stay positive and know to never give up. Unfortunately I have had to deal with a couple scenarios where I have been faced with adversity. I have had to overcome my parents being divorced, and a family member who has overcame a drug addiction. That was one of the hardest things I was ever faced with going through middle school, but knowing that there will always be a tomorrow and to not give up on someone has had a positive impact in the end. It has brought my family closer than we have ever been.
Children and adolescents are faced with developmental tasks at many points as they grow up, but there are a few stages in life when young people meet multiple challenges all at once. The transition from high school to college is one of those critical developmental periods. It is an exciting time that typically leads to considerable gains in maturity, but it is also a time during which many adolescents experience difficulties. This transition is an important event for families as well, because the family unit must navigate significant changes in relationships between family members. Again, although most families manage the transition well, it is quite common that they experience difficulties along the way.
I’m only taking 5 classes this year, which makes my life a little less stressing. My toughest subject this year was probably Economics. It was something different, a new experience. I was introduced to a whole new level of vocabulary and it was tough to memorize. I also did horrible in the tests, but I was able to push through that
Personal Narrative Essay Believe it or not, sometimes a gracious action can bring a huge influence on a person. When I read the introduction that instructor Heller wrote, there is a sentence she wrote: “Sometimes the most influential moments in our lives are smaller moments, events that we may not recognize as influential until years after the experience.” For some reason, I related to it strongly. My story is about my high school experience. Also, I will share some significant moments in my life, and how these smaller moments changed my personality.
The transition from Primary school to Post-Primary school is a difficult time for anyone involved. It is one of the most drastic changes that students will ever encounter in the educational career. The transition is typically filled with anticipation and anxiety about homework, teachers, peers, academic rigor, school rules, getting lost, and many more factors. For the typical student, it is a whirlwind of emotion and anxiety. For students with special needs, these worries become even more prominent for the pupils and their parents.
My high school experience was a long, frustrating learning experience. I didn’t know what to expect, or what I was getting myself into. Nobody gave me the tools to understand the main focus of each year. I am going to give you tips and advice on how to succeed in high school. I will discuss 9-12th grade along with what to expect each year.
High school grows you into the person you are. I have great memories, good and bad, some learning experiences and some that I’ll take with me the rest of my life. My high school experience has influenced my development as a person inside and outside of the class by making me more independent, choosing friends wisely and teachers motivating me to attend college and accomplish goals I have set for myself. I have gained my independence slowly throughout high school. The importance of being independent is being secure with who you are and what you believe in.
