Interpersonal skills are the skills we use every day when we communicate and interact with other people, both individually and in groups. People with strong interpersonal skills are often more successful in both their professional and personal lives, therefore developing these skills will definitely benefit me in the near future. Interpersonal skills include a wide variety of skills, however many are centered around communication, such as listening, questioning and understanding body language. These skills came into effect when I had to be an effective listener and listen to the concerns of the tutee and reflect those back. If I didn't do this then the conversational aspect of the session would have degraded into a teacher-student relationship.
I made sure that I asked people who would give me an honest opinion and were not afraid to voice their thoughts. Joanna (co-worker) listed my strengths as speaking in a consistent and clear rate, excellent with twitches or nervous shakes, and participated in conversations with nods. Areas I could improve on included not using the word “uh” as much in conversations, voicing my opinion in a confident manner, articulation, vocal variety, twitching of fingers while speaking, learning towards partner, volume, facial expressions could be expressed more clearly, include humor in conversation, gestures, and active listening skills. My results from my mom’s reflection on my communication skills included improving on speaking rate, confidence, vocal variety, volume, posture, nodding of head, and active listening skills. I believe that each weaknesses becomes strength. Every human beings have weaknesses, an enemy trying to bring you down in everyday living in the world. An enemy that cant be seen in the eyes but in the midst of mind. In an mock interview I ask what was your greatest weakness in your life and how did you overcome it, I stop for a second and I return back all the memories. Without any hesitation I quickly answered, “My greatest weaknesses was insecurity, I have been fighting every single day of my life to the point that I cannot fight it anymore, but I realized that I’m not the only one who suffered this kind of disorder.
