I believe that the American flag needs to be respected no matter what your belief may be. I get protesting the government and all that, but the flag shows us the freedom we have to protest it. What did the flag do to? Nothing, it just shows we have freedom in this country that other countries don’t have. In any other country they could get killed for stepping on their currency or touching their their flag in the wrong place.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr had a dream - a dream that one day all men, women, and children will be treated equally, regardless of color, race, ethnicity, or economic background. The Martin Luther King Jr Memorial was made in order to commemorate Dr. King and his legacy in rising up and fighting for the civil rights movement in the United States, although it has been plagued with some construction and design flaws. In spite of the issues of the background and presentation of the monument, the success of the memorial in honoring Dr. King and his values can be identified using the memorial itself, comments from Park Ranger John McCaskill, an academic seminar
Immigrants traveled a hard and long voyage across the ocean to America in hopes of better jobs and futures with less discrimination. When they saw the Statue of Liberty they knew they had arrived at Ellis Island, in New York. The statue was a symbol of hope and freedom to them because they knew better opportunities were awaiting there. However, immigrants were faced with several challenges when they arrived. For instance, immigrants went through a screening process and not all immigrants could stay. If the doctor diagnosed them with a contagious disease they were forced to leave. Although, most immigrants could stay. Ellis Island, “was America’s main processing station for immigrants, between 1892 and
This commemorative coin was based off of the Capitol building in Colonial Williamsburg. The Capitol was where Patrick Henry gave his speech Caesar Brutus. This speech was very inspirational and important to the colonists. This is why on the front side of the coin Patrick Henry’s face is shown along with his famous words “Give me liberty, or give me death!” These very inspirational words are a sign of liberty which is why on the back is the Grand Union Flag. It was first raised at the Capitol and is a sign of Colonial Unity. This means being united or joined together. The symbols on this flag are the Union Jack located in the left corner which is Great Britain’s flag. The rest of the flag consists of six white stripes and seven red stripes
While the Pantheon has seven Roman god statues, which the Romans worshipped at the time, Jefferson Memorial has the statue of Jefferson, which dominates the memorial. The 19 foot tall statue made of bronze is facing towards the White House. Alongside him, there are writings and inspirational words to show his dedication to his own country and to his people. As this memorial is dedicated solely to Thomas Jefferson, the statue focuses and well portrays the importance of the memorial. The standing image symbolizes the Age of Enlightenment and Jefferson as a great philosopher and leader during his life. This indicates that even though the purpose of dedication is similar in the Pantheon and Jefferson Memorial, the fact that pantheon is dedicated to gods for religious purposes and Jefferson Memorial is dedicated to himself praising his contribution to the country makes it different between two
The Confederate monuments from the Civil War in many cities, colleges, and universities are being asked to be taken down. The monuments are causing problems between the U.S. citizens. Many people are protesting and saying that the monuments are a symbol of racism, and symbolism of traitors to the U.S., and are used to show white supremacy. These monuments should be taken down from the public but they should not be destroyed. These monuments are an important symbol of American history and should be kept in a historical museum.
In Jim Deegan’s photo, Christopher Columbus is staring off into the distance, his clothes billowing in a seemingly long-forgotten sea breeze. A controversial character, Columbus vacillates between being the hero for some, by finding America, and the nemesis of others for his genocides. However, the angle of the shot, upward, as if in deference, and the thick, mystical fog, all contribute to the universal understanding that the man was a towering figure. Those who come to the park may be angered or joyous, but either way, their feelings leave them impacted by their visit. The organization that created this statue likely wanted a quiet place, a park, in which Americans could reflect upon their heritage and come to their own conclusions as to what they thought of Columbus. That makes for a good monument, one in which a person’s thoughts can settle, and he can form his true feelings.

He displayed courage for African Americans through his work which in turn encouraged many to take action, if they had not already. His beautiful, attention grabbing paintings completely captured culture

One reason that the statue needs to be taken down is that this statue is an inaccurate representation of our past.
