Stenosed River- The Coronary Artery Angina: Restoring Flow into Earth’s Arteries
Dr. Sudha Sehgal, M.D.
The human body and the earth’s ecological systems have many things in common and are often compared and correlated in many theories and articles. Human body consists 75% of water, similarly, water makes 75% of the Earth. Many of the earth’s sustenance systems work in the same ways as different anatomical systems that make human body function. In this article the author shows a correlation between human vascular system and the river networks. Rivers are like drainage systems or water pipes which can be twisted/ tunnelled to suit their unlimited needs. Comparing ecological problems related to rivers and the anatomical conditions known as “stenosis”

The water in rivers flow with a high velocity in the mountains and the velocity drops at its mouth where the river meets the sea. While flowing the river transport/ exchange dissolved minerals and nutrients with surrounding environment and the amount of water flowing in a river depends on the nature of its catchment. Both human vascular system and rivers exhibit different velocity gradients responsible for system diversity. In case of rivers the ecological diversity is directly proportional to different velocity gradients. High flows are important for channel maintenance, bird breeding, algae control, wetland flooding and maintenance of riparian vegetation. Moderate flows are critical for organic matter from river banks and for fish migration, while low flows are critical for fish spawning, water quality maintenance, the use of the river by local people, …show more content…
As canopies open in larger streams, grazers become common with increased periphyton production. And with less canopy cover in wider streams, shredder abundance is reduced. Collectors utilize particles in streams of all sizes, but they dominate benthic communities in larger streams.
Pathology of River and Human Vascular System
Like the arteries, rivers get blocked due to deposition of unwanted pollutants. As the arteries are lifeline of human body, rivers are lifeline of a nation and once the rivers dry up a nation may face many problems. Altering river flow modifies river channels, sediment characteristics, biological communities and its flood plain habitat. When a river is obstructed by trees or firm lands it causes the rivers to bend and find another path. Thus any external perturbation in the river changes the course of rivers.

The case of Richard New and Lake Cumberland Funeral Home v. Commonwealth of Kentucky, Kentucky Board of Embalmers; Commonwealth of Kentucky, Funeral Director is an appeal and cross-appeal of a previous case heard by Franklin Circuit Court. The case was tried in the Commonwealth of Kentucky Court of Appeals. It stems from sanctions by the Kentucky Board of Embalmers (the Board) against Richard New (New) and Lake Cumberland Funeral Home (Lake Cumberland) for allowing unlicensed employees to perform embalming services including signing death certificates. The previous hearing by the Franklin Court found that the Board could sanction New and Lake Cumberland for allowing unlicensed employees to perform embalming services and could assign fines related
Herbert Run is prone to pollution as a possible result of the residential area and open to sewer lines. This results in litter being in the water, which has an adverse affect on the water. Commons stream is also cluttered with litter and students moving around the immediate areas that surround the stream. The conductivity graph shows a higher level of conductivity in the Commons Stream than Herbert Run. The conductivity level is twice as high in Commons Stream in comparison with Herbert Run, which means that the concentration of dissolved solids that are ionized in this stream is higher.
Experience the natural beauty of Raystown Lake. This beautiful lake is nestled within the rolling mountains of Pennsylvania. Placed betwee Altoona and Harrisburg, the lake contains more than 30 miles of navigable water. Fed by the Juniata River, it boasts of 118 miles of shoreline. From Raystown Lake houseboat rental, visitors can explore the 21,000 acres of largely undeveloped lands that surround the lake.
For decades, there has been tension between Native American fishermen and non-native fishermen over the fishing rights on Mille Lacs Lake. This tension has increased, particularly because of the sustainability and quality of Mille Lacs Lake, and the Supreme Court’s ruling in Minnesota against Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indians. The Court claimed that the Chippewa Indians retained their rights to hunt and fish on ceded lands as established by the 1837 Treaty of St. Peters. Usufruct rights are rights of enjoyment to another’s property allowing the holder to generate income from the property without obtaining ownership. This right to hunt and fish on ceded lands is further protected from state regulation by the 1837 Treaty of St. Peters.
Croix River watershed have reflected the importance the river plays in the development of the local economy, as the most populous areas have been located along the lower main stem of the St. Croix” (International Joint Commission Report). The size of the population, structure and distribution are the determining factors of the watershed health. So it is so important that to know about these factors as it influences the development of life and the area around. With the increase in population density along the river , the use of natural resources especially water increases for normal and industrial use. There should be a well established balance between land use, population density and social, economical and industrial development for conserving a healthy
And the smallest zooplankton (called micro‐zooplankton), fell by about 90 percent.” Finally, dissolved oxygen in the river dropped by 15
Rivers change the shape of the earth by eroding away sediments of the earth's surface. There are four different types of erosion created by rivers: hydraulic action, abrasion, attrition and solution. Hydraulic action is when the river bank is weakened by the velocity of the river, which allows air to enter small breaks in the river bank, and the bank slowly erodes away. Abrasion is when the bed and bank of the river is worn away by rocks carried by the river. Attrition is when rocks in the river forcefully hit each other and create smaller sediments.
My 8th grade class went to the Conodoguinet creek to test if there was any pollution in the creek water. Before we went my hypothesis was, “If we go to the Conodoguinet creek and test the water, then the creek will have little to any pollution in it because we haven’t had a monstrous storm in the past few months so there wouldn’t be an excessive amount of acid rainfall or runoff” There are three types of macroinvertebrates ( an invertebrate fauna - animal of a particular region - that can be captured by a soo - which is a certain net or sieve - ) that we were looking for, Group 1 ( which is pollution sensitive - they cannot have any pollution- ), Group 2 ( which is somewhat pollution tolerant - they can live with some pollution-) and Group
White understands that some people may argue that we are destroying or “raping” nature through development and urbanization. However, White does not believe this; he believes as long as humans work with nature, instead of against forces of nature, to fulfill both their purpose and the purpose of nature, in this case, the flow of the river, both humans and nature can prosper together. White uses the example of humans embracing natural water flow fluctuations in the Columbia River rather than setting up storage tanks to manually control the river. This example shows how humans can utilize the natural work and energy of the river and nature to reach common goals. The Colombia River is not only a creation of nature but also a creation of humans.
Did you ever wanted to sail to the new world to get gold and other treasure’s. In 1607 John Smith (Captain Smith) brought some colonist with him to build the new world. .
by the river is a verse-novel by Steven Herrick. The novel scrutinises the theme of growing from childhood to adolescence, whilst exploring the many challenges and vicissitudes that it 's growing characters face along the journey. During this journey, Harry and classmate, Johnny Barlow, encounter many challenges to do with learning that in a small country-town they must decide whether to accept or revolt against the judgment of others. Harry must also learn the challenging aspect of handling new lust related emotions, whilst both boys must
Have you ever seen a yellow river? Golden river, not so golden after all. In Colorado there was a mine spill in the Animas River that affect many people, animals and their land. The Animas River was polluted with with toxic chemicals that have left an environmental disaster and people can get diseases, from the water, leaving people to wonder if their way of life will ever be the same. The Animas river flowed a yellow color through several states contaminating hundreds of miles of land and the biggest indian reservation in the nation.
In Cleveland, Ohio there was a fire that occurred on June 22, 1969, around 12pm on the Cuyahoga river. People called it the “burning river”. The river caught on fire because there were floating pieces of debris that was slicked with oil. The debris ignited by sparks that came from a train that was passing over the river. The reason it happened is from years of people dumping pollution into the river.
Eutrophication, which is excessive richness of nutrients in any form of body of water, frequently due to runoff from the land, which causes a dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen, is another reason why the creek could be polluted. Fertilizers are used in farming to provide crops with nutrients, but they also play a big role in the Eutrophication process. If too much fertilizer is used, it leaches from the soil in
However, the rivers in the Indus valley commonly changed course, more often in times of flooding. This made them unreliable. Rivers
