• The Simpsons is a Juxtaposition as for so long they have been the alternative and now they couldn’t be any closer to being mainstream and part of the popular culture – This connects to Bart’s character by showing the progression on ‘The Simpsons’ and how it was the anti-culture just like Bart but as time passes on it is perfectly in line with the mainstream. • Watching with The Simpsons by Jonathon Gray. • “Krusty changes his act to ranting against capitalism. He is soon wooed back to his old ways by sponsorship offers and selling out” PG 83 (AW) – Only for so long can a character or a series keep to it’s roots until it has to think about the ratings rather than it having fun anymore. Bart continues to do what he does as it only pleases him, which in turn is what he wants.
Mohammed Shahriar Keith Evans English 1301 11 November, 2016 Quiz 5: Old Spice Very few advertisement products are as memorable as a trailer for old spice called “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.” Even without the use logos, this commercial is successful due to how it masterfully utilizes ethos and pathos to make it very memorable in the eyes of the audience. An example of ethos can be seen in the very first shot of the commercial, it sets the tone for what the ideal man is supposed to look like. The speaker is a handsome, ripped, shirtless man and he compares his physique to the husbands of the wives that are watching the commercial. Old spice is a body wash and it uses this image of an ideal man to gain credibility for itself.
Elvis started out as a middle-class working American (Scheiber). President at the time, Jimmy Carter, said that he was America’s “vitality, rebelliousness, and good humor” (“Elvis Presley” St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture). This comment shows how Elvis impacted America by being full of energy, crazy, and funny. Of course everyone liked him as well as the president of the United States. He represented America in a way.
Faizaan Amanat 1st Trimester Exam 1. “WOW...Jar Jar Binks is soo funny! He totally didn’t ruin the entire Star Wars franchise for almost two decades!” This is irony. Usually when people think of irony, they think of sarcasm. But many people do not know, is that there are other forms of irony.

In the expert, Tom characterizes a lazy boy sneaky as an eel, that manages to get out of his work. Not only does Tom wittily get out of his work, but he is so clever he has his friends pay him because as he says “Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence every day?” (SB pg. 269). At first, Tom tries to bribe Jim into doing the whitewash by offering “Jim, I’ll give you a marvel.
In my opinion President Dwight D. Eisenhower was the most positively perceived and supported by the American people in political cartoons of the day. His popularity was due to the fact that he was a decorated general during World War II and people respected his leadership. He "endeared himself to the American people with his plain talk, charming smile, and sense of confidence"(Pach, 2016) that popularity is reflected in the political cartoons. Most of the cartoons I studied were more or less a gentle poke at the presidency. Many of them portrayed him golfing such as the one with Sputnik flying overhead, or the one of him putting in the oval office.
Comedy news shows fail to successfully inform their viewers, change people's perspective on important topics, and fail to report many current events happening around the globe. The article “The Good, The Bad, and The Daily Show” was written by Jason Zinser and first appeared in The Daily Show and Philosophy: Moments of Zen in the Art of Fake News in 2007. This article discusses the pros and cons of The Daily Show, a comedy news cast and how it can have a negative effect on people's beliefs and opinions about politics. The Daily Show may be “fake” because it’s a comedy show, however, Ziner
The commercial talks about the different ways the Switch can be used. As the whole world knows, Nintendo is a company that makes gaming systems, most known for the Nintendo 3DS, Wii and Wii U, etc. The company was founded on September 23rd, 1889 and is still in business! All of the commercials in the Super Bowl this year were all great but, I picked two of my favorites and also 2 of the top commercials that played during the game. Other commercials that played that were pretty funny was Avocados From Mexico.
A pomegranate had landed squarely between the tip of my nose and my chin, completely painting the lower half of my head a dripping, red mauve. In humorful submission, I mimicked lines of surrender we had heard in the endings of western movies we remember so fondly, as well as moving into a prostrate position. Hassan’s tee-hees only fueled my fruitful attempts to have him laugh. After going jovially through the cycles of mock-fighting, surrendering, and restarting, those pomegranates painted us with currant-coloured joy. Our friendship proved to be rekindled in that
Plus, when Harris has to pee on the fence, he acts like his %^&*$ is a real person! He refers to his business numerous times, and how can you explain the ‘Jesus in the Peach tree’ remark?! Hmmm? !” Firstly, I would like to address those points you made just there. Good work, they are the highlights of High Comedy in this excerpt.
