Stephen King Reading To Write Analysis

The ability to read and write is both creative and destructive. This ability opens your eyes to the world and how beautiful it can be. It also has the potential to destroy your entire grip on reality and expose you to the actual world you live in. It imprisons you yet, releases you from your mental confinement. Some people never escape from this confinement, some do; and those who escape sometimes go on to do great things in life. It pains me to say that I will not have the satisfaction of giving each and every one of those people who escaped or not the credit and appraisal that they so dutifully deserve. No, in this essay I will be focusing on three people, each with their own hardships and their own “imprisonments”, whether those “imprisonments” were literal or not; they deserve to be appraised. All three of these people contrast against each other greatly but, at the same time have immense comparisons.  For example, all three of these people are minorities but, only two of them are male. Another example would be, all of them lived in America yet, only one of them is still alive. All three of them have had their hardships but, all three have escaped their imprisonments.

Both Stephen King and Chuck Klosterman believe that many people watch horror movies for the thrill and excitement, however Klosterman uses horror movies as a metaphor while King uses horror movies as a sense of relief. Horror movies have always been such a popular genre that people watch. The horror genre is one of the top genres to watch other than comedy and romance. Many people may enjoy horror movies, while many others may not enjoy horror movies. Stephen King uses multiple literary devices in his novel On Writing to convey the feel of a fictional novel, though it is based on facts from his life. King effectively uses these devices to convey his theme of persevering through adversity to become a greater writer and person. A major technique used in his writing is imagery that comes in many forms, precisely in this passage.

According to Lemony Snicket, “[You should] never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them” and writer Stephen King presumably would agree. In On Writing, pages one forty-seven through one fifty, King uses diction, critical and ardent tones and figurative language, to highlight the significance of reading and how it benefits a writer.

In the essays, “Reading to Write” by Stephen King, “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, “Learning to Read” Malcolm X, and “Learning to Write” by Frederick Douglas have three things in common. In each essay Reading has contributed towards the authors life leading to benefit from learning to read, allowing them to leave a legacy behind. In each essay the authors has thought their self how unlike Frederick Douglass.

To be successful in life, it is required to know how to read. Reading brings knowledge and knowledge brings intelligence, wisdom, and understanding. People learn from many different forms of literature. One of the most important kind of literature is children's literature. It is responsible for teaching children things like vital knowledge that are required for school and life. One man had an incredible impact on children's literature and the way children learned how to read. Dr. Seuss explored new ways to write children's books introducing rhyme and humor, and has helped children to learn to read in a fun and enjoyable manner.

The reason why I want to be part of the National English Honor Society is because English is my favorite subject. Since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family and it has always been one of my best subjects in school. Ever since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family. Reading has been my escape from the stress of school and work and is an outlet for me to relax. I often imagine myself as the character of the stories and try to figure out what I would do if I was the character in real life. It is because of reading that it helped develop my interest in writing and journaling, which is enjoyable for me. Just like reading, writing is a great way for me to unwind. My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success. I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole.

Fahrenheit 451 is set in a horrible, yet very possible, dystopian world. The setting is very undesirable because everyone thinks that books are bad so they have prohibited all of them. Everyone has this Belief because over time it has been convinced that books only bring sorrow. Most people have forgot about books and their importance, but the people who haven’t forgotten try to sneak books into their homes only to then have their homes burned, sometimes with them in it. Books are valuable, worth the time and effort, and in Montags’ world books are considered dangerous. His world also shows us how books compare to other human activities.

The history of my literacy has been a long road of a frustration and learned lessons. As a child, I was a bit of a loner so reading and writing were the closest thing to a social life for me. The things that I bottled up inside came out through my writing and it became somewhat of a pass time for me. As long I could remember literacy as has been an important value for me in my life because from very young age I got express my true self without being judged by the outside. Even though in my later years I would deal with some heartaches and set back that lead me to give up on my love for reading. I would always come back to my real first love.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” by Dr. Seuss. This quote speaks for itself. The more you know and educate yourself, the further you’ll go in life. Books are filled with some much information that we could learn from. By just reading books and having knowledge about them, can take you just about anywhere in life. Reading can open your mind to new things.

Reading and writing is a tool everybody needs in their lifetime the basic reading and writing skills are used on a daily base no matter what field you plan to study. Reading and writing are taught at a young age. I personally was taught by preschool I noticed on how I grew with my writing and how I became a better reader and writer throughout my life I personal love reading and writing it’s a way for everyone to express themselves through their choice of words.

There many moderate writers, and many more bad writers. Of all the writers, a tiny fraction of them are geniuses. Stephen King represents this in a pyramid. In his book, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, he emphasizes the basic features of writing that makes it good. However, his idea of good writing is not shakespearean masterpieces but rather something that is readable. In the “toolbox” section of his book, he details the features that make writing good, highlighting aspects of vocabulary, grammar, and elements of style. Keeping these points in mind, the book, Wild by Cheryl Strayed does follow through as what Stephen King would call “good writing.”

In Kelly Gallagher article of the week, I read an article called “10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day”. I believe reading is a very useful and helpful skill to possess. Reading develops the mind and helps people think outside the box.

Stephen King is a university of Maine graduate, he graduated with a B.S. in English and a minor in dramatics. King has several major achievements for his literary masterpieces. King is most known for writing novels, short stories and screenplays; not many people know about the children’s book he published. Stephen King, American author, writes about every nightmare producing topic imaginable, and Stephen King is one of the best horror fiction novelists, who has written the greatest horror fiction novels of the twentieth and twenty first century.
