Society has become blind to racism slurs and appearances in ways we don’t understand. That affects many people here in America for example, Africans are highly considered black with HIV as Arabs are presented as Muslim and made the AK-47 the pop icon it is today.
“People tend to think that stereotypes are honest reflections of what they see in the world. But instead, they often shape how we see the world and how we metabolize the data in front of us” (Demby4). The way people look at you know matter what color you are now days people are racist. Stereotypes enhance people’s lives, while at the same time inhibiting them. This generation is blind towards racism the world looks at us differently then what we really are. Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. National Security within the United States has been a concern since the 1930s and is only heightened during times of war. Naturally, due to the conflicts with particular countries, World War II and the Cold War created racial stereotypes. Unfortunately, those stereotypes lead to racially bias legal doctrines being created within the United States . The court was not alone in shaping these doctrines, as there was immense pressure from both public and military interests. Particular cases, during WWII and the Cold War, can give examples of how people shouldn’t be treated and how, at the time, every man and women wasn’t truly created equal within the United States, that the 14th amendment was a written law but not properly
Racism and Prejudice have affected this country for a long period of time. Since the revolutionary war, African Americans have been tortured, beaten, and even killed just because their skin close was different than that of white people. In today's age racism exist in a different way. African Americans are no longer enslaved, or segregated from white people. Racism exists today through jokes and things that people have heard from each other.
Have you ever thought about how minorities such as black or hispanic people are perceived, treated, and discriminated against in America? How about in schools where they are supposed to learn? Who is to blame for the broadly apparent achievement gap? African American kids in public schools are severely disadvantaged and it 's not all their fault. As per Steele and Aronson’s study conducted in 1995, it was introduced that a stereotype threat is the ideology of being at risk of negative conformant and characterisation based on ones self and/or social group. The phenomenon of a stereotype threats is widely incorporated into society in order to influence or impact an outcome and/ or performance. A stereotype threat can play a positive or a negative role in the standard intellectual and cognitive assessments of a group. However, these stereotypical threats predominantly carry negative connotations that allow individuals of a group to conform to the negative stereotypes associated with their self or social group.
Picture that student that gets straight A’s in every class and seems to pass every single test they take. Immediately, that student is considered to be the nerd who takes numerous Advanced Placement, or AP, classes and has no social life. Assumptions such as these lead to people creating a generalization about each other, or a stereotype, which is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Psychologists state that people stereotype because our brains are wired to do so. Unfortunately, making such assumptions comes with a disadvantage.
Stereotype a word that harbours judgements and ideas of how an individual or groups should act depending on factors such as social status, culture, sexual orientation and nationality. It is still used very often in today’s society but most of it consist of ideas that are proved to be false or exaggerated but nonetheless these unrealistic judgements are spread amongst society through propaganda, traditional and social media. In some circumstances, stereotypes can be extreme enough to incite prejudice, disrespect or even racism between people. Three stereotypes that I find to be to be really relevant in today’s society are directed towards the culture of Americans, Asians and Muslims. These stereotypes portray how these populaces act and what their characteristics should be or is.

The test I chose was the social attitudes test. I chose this test because I find a lot of prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes are most commonly seen in race, gender and sexual orientation. I figured this would be interesting to see my social attitudes towards groups that are typically the most discriminated against. The test that I was administered was the Implicit Social Cognition on the Internet test. The test measured my automatic attitudes towards Black and White people.

Truths are basically the honest look of how the group behaves. Currently people get misconceptions and stereotypes confused. Yet misconceptions are formed from stereotypes and are incorrect based on truths.

As time passes by, we start to develop ideologies of who someone is as a person based on our previous experience with other human beings. Oftentimes, our beliefs and disbeliefs prevents us from developing genuine ideologies of who someone is as a person. With that being said, our perception of who someone is as a person may not be who someone is in actuality. Therefore, in order for us to perceive someone for who they actually are we must be willing to set aside our beliefs and disbeliefs. Sometimes, our perception of someone has the possibility to affect their perception of themselves.

Our cultural beliefs dictate that there are only two biological sexes corresponding to two genders (Newman, 2001).The concept of being male and female often brings about misconceptions and stereotypes, such as the belief that males are expected to display competent and the dominant attitudes while females are expected to exhibit nurturing and emotional attitudes. Because of the way that society view women 's roles, it is evident that society cannot exist without clear cut categories of male and female. Anthropologist Margaret Mead believed that “culture is the key to gender distinctions” (Macionis ). And because of the role that culture plays within society, it can be determined that our past cultural beliefs has shaped the beliefs of many
