In the documentary Brown is the New Green, Latinos are the main and only focus. The film is about how George Lopez normalizes the image of Latinos in the United States through entertainment. George Lopez is a major representative factor in the Latino community. The connection between George Lopez and the Latino audience creates a cultural identity. This is the first true representation of Latinos in the United States. Before Lopez, Latinos only had stereotypical icons, like Speedy Gonzales and Jose Jimenez that perpetrated only negative traits for the entire community. Starting with George Lopez, Latinos are shaping their cultural identity by changing the narrative from isolated marketing to marketing with representation.

The constant bombardment of negative associations of minorities affects how the public views those within these groups. Unconsciously people are affected by these images even those within the Black community. A study in 2006 showed that Blacks that watched a lot of television tended to have more distrust for their neighbors, be less likely to join groups and have a negative attitude toward their neighbors than their, White counter parts viewing the same things. (Beaudoin & Thorson, 2006). These types of problems are only furthering the divide between racial groups. Studies have also shown that those with less real world contact with people of other ethnic groups they are more likely to believe and be influenced by the images shown by the media

National Security within the United States has been a concern since the 1930s and is only heightened during times of war. “Once you understand and appreciate other people’s cultural backgrounds, then you can also connect with them more” Either being born or migrating into America you are considered as an American Citizen. In reality are you actually treated as American Citizen? People of America tend to stereotype different races and cultures.However,America is full of diversity and multicultural human beings, but there is a lot of oppression against races or a specific race. Therefore, Americans should embrace being multicultural because if we don't embrace it then it limits how individuals of different cultures feel oppressed.

Stereotyping is a way of categorizing certain groups of people or types of individuals with regards to gender, race, culture, religion etc. Stereotyping arises from prior assumptions due to influences by the media, history and personal experience. The statement: “To gain an understanding of the world we need to make use of stereotypes,” appears that stereotyping is required in order to really understand the world, and knowledge issues can be drawn from this statement: Does stereotyping prevent us from knowing someone truly and how are stereotypes created in the first place? One way to examine and discuss the knowledge issues is to look at different areas of knowledge, which in our case will be History and Human Science. Since the concept of stereotyping holds a broad scope, the essay will narrow down the focus to ethnic groups and their culture.
