Dedication takes heart, courage, and effort, and most serious athletes will tell you that the competitive drive to win can be fierce. Athletes often pursue dreams of winning a medal for their country or securing a spot on a professional team, which caused the use of performance-enhancing drugs has become increasingly common (“Performance- Enhancing Drugs: Know the Risk”). The abuse of performance-enhancing drugs can cause depression just like what happened with Taylor Hooton started using steroids because he “needed to be bigger” for his senior year (Grossfeld); after a long term use of steroids he hanged himself from his bedroom door on July 15, 2003. As records have been smashed, there has been speculations that athletes have been using Performance enhancing supplements, in particular steroids (“Performance-Enhancing Substances”). Steroids are a “Magic” substance that build muscle mass, giving endurance and power improving their play or performance, it also gives an unfair advantage over those that kill their selves on the gym or the field working hard to become better at something. A lot of steroids users are completely sure that without steroids you cannot demonstrate your limits and you have to work even harder. Besides making muscles bigger, anabolic steroids may help athletes to recover from hard workout more quickly by reducing the muscle damage that occurs during the session.
