Steve Jobs: The Free Enterprise System

On June 12th, 2005, the late Steve Jobs gave a memorable commencement speech at Stanford University. As the co-founder and CEO of Apple Inc., NeXT, and primary investor and CEO of Pixar Animation Studios, Jobs has been deemed one of the greatest technological and business leaders of all time. Jobs revolutionized the technological industry in a way that not only shaped modern technology, but impacted the daily lives of consumers. Throughout the history of the world, few people were able to make such a monumental impact on the entire human race by the innovation of new technology. Steve Jobs was one of the leading technologists and helped shape the modern computer into what it is nearly 30 years later. For the entirety of his life, he was a truly remarkable individual. Steve Jobs was able to develop Apple into one of the leading technology companies by utilizing perseverance, business strategies, and hard work. First and foremost Steve Jobs encountered several obstacles that he surmounted to succeed.

Apple started as a small company in Steve’s parent’s garage by a young man with little to no computer knowledge but incredible marketing and persuasive skills. Many of the people Jobs worked for described him as being extremely innovative, sometimes too much so. Jobs was always seen breaking new boundaries in the world of technology in a way that he was seen as the one who led the way for many other technology

At the age of 23, Steve Jobs was a millionnaire with his second computer, the Apple II. In 1981, Apple was one of the three biggest producer of PC. Some years later, Apple stopped to name their personal computer PC, but Macintosh. All the Apple products are always very expensive but Apple never had a lot of problem to sell them. In 1985, Steve Jobs had give up Apple and let John Sculley in possession of Apple.

Born in 1955 by two University of Wisconsin graduate students who gave him up for adoption, Jobs was smart, but directionless, dropping out of college and experimenting with different pursuits before co-founding Apple with Steve Wozniak in 1976. Bill Gates affected a lot of American history through his impact on technology. Bill Gates had a lot of positive and negative criticism during his time working with computers. Bill Gates had his first big major opportunity with computers when he was 14 years of age.

Who is this man behind all the popular social technology inventions? Steve jobs is the creator of I phone and the brand of Apple. He has built the most valuable corporation in the world. His mission was to humanize personal computing. Steve made the music bloom a bit more with his software invention of iTunes.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the founders of Apple, shared many of their traits, but they differed in many others as well. Steve Wozniak started getting interested in electronics at an early age and thereby became a pure breed engineer. He always loved engineering and creating and his goal was never to make a big profit, but rather to amaze people by his designs. Ethics also played a huge role in Steve Wozniak’s life and his strong views on the topic were always apparent during his time at Apple. For example, when early apple employees were, in his opinion, treated unjust with regards to Stocks, he sold his own stocks for a below market price to them in order to make things right.

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, did the work, and give orders. Instead teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea” (Saint-Exupéry, 1948). This perfectly describes Steve Jobs. He was a leader with passion and clear vision who directed his people and got extraordinary achievements. While many believed him to be a transformational leader, others see him as a toxic leader.
