Hello Class, So many topics, so little time! One of my hobbies is to read about history and historic events. There is an old adage that states that "History is written by the victors." I always try to study history from both sides (victors and vanquished) so that I can better learn the reasons for the events. Naturally, I could have selected an easy and somewhat dull topic. However, where is the interest and chance for lively discussion in that? I had considered, but decided against, a topic on the "True Cause(s) of the American Revolution", "Was Florida a Strategic Hindrance to the Confederacy" or "Were There Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq". Controversy, promotes discussion, and discussion hopefully leads to learning. Some historical …show more content…
Why did you pick this topic? I selected this topic based upon my deep interest in Roman history and the controversial topic of religion. 2. 2. What do I already know about it? I have a general knowledge regarding the post Republic era of Roman and further knowledge on a select number of Roman leaders, battles and early Christian religious sects and power struggles. 3. 3. What is my goal in acquiring new information through my research? An answer, if not by documented proof, then at least by strong circumstantial evidence. 4. 4. What information will I want to share with my reader? The details of the religious leader who baptized Constantine the Great. Information on Constantine himself and the rivalry of the early Christian church and the power struggle for Orthodox beliefs. My thesis statement is: Despite being sainted by the Orthodox church, Constantine the Great was not baptized as an Orthodox Christian. After you post your thesis statement, discuss how you arrived at that one sentence. The thesis statement is the true focal point of the essay. What process of thought led to that sentence? Studying the power struggles of the early Christian Orthodox church and the Arian (not the white racist type) sect of

This book is written in first and third person in an objective style. This style fits the subject very well because in history, facts are much more important than feelings. The book was written very well, but at some times it is hard to understand because it may be in a different languages, use obsolete words, or just use words that aren’t very well known. The book is fairly concise, but sometimes can get a bit lengthy. Overall, the book is fairly easy to understand.
Therefore, some might think Eusebius’ Life of Constantine is unreliable and biased by the author’s religion. But, the archaeological evidence of the ancient writing of Eusebius, who lived during Constantine’s time, has proven that Constantine’s conversion led to the outlawing of persecution of Christians and abolition of polytheism, and Christianity becoming the official religion of the Roman Empire after his death.
Make sure it is in a distant and formal third person. Remember, just the facts. Do not critique it or offer personal insight...yet. Paragraph 2 is a brief analysis. Consider
War is almost universally considered a destructive and evil act. This begs the question why such a seemingly irrational event has continuously occurred throughout history, even when actors appear to be rational states focused on maximizing their own security. When historians attempt to address this question, they often focus on three levels of analysis: individual, state, and systemic. Each level of analysis has merit when explaining prominent wars. However, the state level, which analyzes domestic systems of specific states, appears to be the most effective level of analysis when looking at many major wars in recent history.
This question can be answered if we first find out what Roman society felt about its
The effect of worshipping Roma is that provincials feel more closely connected with the city and culture of Rome. This shows how Octavian used religion as a tool for integrating provincials into Roman religious
Ancient Rome 's influence cannot be exaggerated. The English language, government, and culture – from basics such as alphabet and calendar to more sophisticated legal systems – are so heavily saturated with Roman features that it is impossible to imagine what the world would be like if Rome had not prospered. In this essay, I have tried to include the most interesting facts relating to the entire Roman period. The first aspect is the army.
In this paper I will argue that the text was intended for Christians instead of the Romans based on the way Perpetua is praised in the text and how Perpetua’s disobedience towards her father who was the paterfamilias was most shocking to the Romans. Essentially this autobiography was written for Christian’s, particularly for those who were or later
She uses Roman literature, to find more information about the ruling classes. The chapter goes through the jobs women held and how they varied by social status. The final chapter of the book reviews the effects of Religion on Roman women. It relates the topic to modern day Italian customs today.
It can be seen that Christianity had the most significant changes in Roman society compared to the other religions. Christianity improved the social, cultural and political way
The history book Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization by Lars Brownworth is about the Roman Empire from the time it was created to the time it fell. This book includes the main and important people and events that make up the history of the Roman empire. In the book Lars wrote “ This book is my small attempt to redress that situation, to give voice to a people who have remained voiceless far too long. It’s intended to whet the appetite, to expose the reader to the vast sweep of Byzantine history, and to put flesh and sinew on their understanding of the East and the West” (p. xviii). The author states that the purpose of the book is to expose the reader to Byzantine history, to give the reader a
Kimberly, Your discussion was very well written and related closely to my writing and thoughts as well! A strength of your writing that stands out was how Apostle Paul carried the word throughout the Mediterranean. " Paul, the "apostle to the Gentiles," carried the message of salvation through faith in Christ throughout the eastern Mediterranean and into Rome itself" (Rawls, 2016, p. 224). This single piece of information confirms that Paul is one of the main reasons for Christianity entering Rome which through history becomes the main point for the fall of the empire. In regards to our assignment, a small weakness that could be found would be that of the literary work of the Bible having a great influence on the Western world when in fact
No one was supposed to deter from the will of the gods and if they did, the consequences would be severe. Vergil’s Aeneid offers insight into the mind of a Roman, what they stood for, and how they valued the gods’ insight. Following the will of the gods was a crucial aspect to every Roman citizen. If someone were to stray from the will of the gods, then there was often catastrophic consequences.
