Striped Pajamas Father

Bruno is dead his own father is at fault. In the book The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Bruno is a german boy who has moved from Berlin to the German concentration camp Auschwitz because his father is a commandant there. Throughout the story Father had been very quiet through most the book up until the end and he is responsible for Bruno’s death because, he did not tell him about the other side of the fence and what was happening there.

First, from the beginning of the book father never remotely explained anything of what was happening in Auschwitz and why they were there. “‘And I have listen to what you have to say, even your youth and inexperience force you to phrase things in an insolent manner. And you’ll notice that I have not reacted to any of this. But the moment has come when you simply have to accept that--’”(Boyne). This show that instead of explaining to Bruno why they are here and what’s happening he just says that he should just deal with things how they are without knowing a thing about them. Father never explaining things to Bruno is one of the causes of his death.

“‘Those people . . . well at least not as we understand the term’.”(Boyne). At this moment father could be explaining they are there and telling him to stay away from them and the consequences that will happen if he disobeys, but no he leaves him with a blunt answer that doesn’t mean anything to Bruno because fear is what lives in the mind of children especially of that age and fear of death is one of the worst.
