Advantages of two stroke engines 1. Two stroke engines are easy to manufacture and operate. 2. The number of working strokes is twice than that in four stroke engine. 3. Two stroke engine occupies less space, needs lighter foundations and requires few spare parts. 4. Two stroke engines are much easier to start. 5. Initial cost of two stroke engines is less due to light weight and absence of valve mechanism. 6. Less friction due to absence of suction and exhaust strokes, higher mechanical efficiency. Disadvantages of two stroke engines 1. Exhaust and inlet parts are open simultaneously and some fresh charge is likely to escape without work output. 2. Thermal efficiency of two stroke is lower due to some charges escaping without burning, decreases performance and slow combustion pressure. 3.
