All of our great leaders had one thing in common. Leadership. All of our great leaders have a different approach. Leaders have to have great attitude, they have to know what they want, and they have to always be accepting of the truth. Being a leader doesn’t mean being a President or a Vice President, people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass made a huge impact on the abolitionist movement, and they were fugitive slaves!
“If you want to become a great leader, you need to prepare yourself to become a great leader, and the best way to do that is to study great leaders.” (Schembechler 7). Being a leader means defining and exhibiting moral and ethical courage and setting an example for everyone within any given group. Being a leader helps you teach leadership skills to your family, friends, and employees who will then help do the "heavy lifting" of moving the masses from where it is today to where it needs to be in the future. In today's day in age, people will believe that great leaders are born to lead. Some leaders are developed through lifetime lessons. They are brought up in strong family core values, that they pass on to others. They have great role models
Being a good leader does not necessarily mean shining in the spotlight. Some of the most revolutionary and successful leaders are the ones who worked the lights. Self-awareness, self-direction, vision, ability to motivate, and social awareness are the characteristics of a good leader according to SIY Leadership Institute (SIYLI). There have been many accomplished and renowned leaders in America since (and before) the 1770’s, ones whose names are universally known and others who are unfamiliar. Of the latter is Alexander Hamilton, who showed potential since the minute he was put on earth, for no matter what obstacles were thrown in his way he forged ahead and never threw away his shot.
The desire for power is one of the fundamental aspects of human nature. Power can be expressed in many ways both for good and for evil. Being a leader takes tremendous responsibilities and if misused, can have a lasting effect on the people governed. Dee Houk once said, “Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership.” Jack believes leadership is about management and control. As a result, his actions cause the death of multiple people. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack seeks to be the king of island at all costs through the oppression and control of others.
The reason we need virtuous leaders is since America has had some corrupt leaders in the past and they have made some immoral rules. The incorrect rules can only be reversed by having decent leaders. One way to acquire good leaders is to have smart, well educated people and we could not do that without smart well educated teachers. Another thing we would need do in order to acquire respectable leaders is good hard workers. We need workers because most of the time workers are followers and what is a leader without followers? The last item America needs to grow moral leaders is supporters. We need supporters for a leader otherwise they will not rise up to the pressure of leading and might end up hurting people instead of helping
Whether people want or not, a leader/leaders are necessary to a society. Throughout history and around the world, there have been a number of leaders. When looking back on history, some are successful and others are total failure. However, it is not easy to divide leaders into good ones and bad ones. The judgement on leaders differ depending on from whom perspective we see the leader. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, there are two totally different types of leaders, Snowball and Napoleon. In the end, Napoleon, rather than Snowball, is thought as a leader. Although Napoleon is drawn as a self-centred, tyrannical leader, he is an effective one and has a great impact on animals.
Leadership is defined by Merriam-Webster (n.d.) as a “capacity to lead”. This concise yet inexact definition demonstrates an inherent debate of what exactly leadership is, moreover the concept of what makes someone a good or bad leader. People’s interpretations of what makes someone a leader varies from person to person based on their own philosophical outlook. My philosophy on leadership leans heavily on Jocko Willink’s and Leif Babin’s book Extreme Ownership. Quoting Willink & Babin (2015), “… leadership requires finding the equilibrium in the dichotomy of many seemingly contradictory qualities between one extreme and another” (p. 274). Some of the contradictory qualities in the book I agree with the most include taking ownership while empowering subordinates, being attentive to details but not being obsessed, and being aggressive but not overbearing.
What is a leader?” John Quincy Adams once declared “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” If I never expressed my story to others. No one would know how much I have achieved in the past 17 years. I grew up in a Haitian-American household, with my mother, and my three younger siblings. My mother was born and raised in Carrefour, Haiti. She came to the United States to live with her father. While living here she learned how to mature on her own, drive on her own, and learned how to cook because at the age of 17 years old, she was living on her own because of family issues. Growing up I was close to my dad, but my mother demonstrated to me how to be a leader and how to be independent.
Leadership can have a huge impact on an entire group. Leaders are the ones who make sure things get done. Most of the time in this world we live in, there are more followers than there are leaders. This could be the reason our world is so entirely messed up. There is almost nobody doing anything, or taking the initiative, to get the problems some have to deal with everyday, fixed. We need more leaders in this world to get these types of things started and fixed. We need those people who are not scared to stand up and be
Do you know the importance of having a hierarchy structure within any given work space? Without structure there would be no clear line of communication between workers. Having a structure in a workplace establishes communication skills, defuses conflicts, and also provides awareness of leaders who are in charge of you. The most fundamental and important organizational concept used by military is the chain of command. Chain of Command can be defined as the succession of commanders superior to subordinates. Soldiers should utilize their Chain of Command to work through any given situation when a leader cannot solve the situation at hand.
When reading and listening to lectures I was struck by the information presented in part two of the Jossey-Bass Reader on Educational Leadership: Moral Leadership. I believe this stemmed from three key ideas: trust, relationships, and business.
In this world there are many leaders, some do not listen to other people and are very stubborn. Others listen to their supporters and critics to make their decisions thus leaving behind their own opinions and thoughts. A strong leader in this century should doggedly stick to their idea because they should not become too flexible and be very strict to apply the correct rules and regulations for a good society. Martin Luther Kind Junior is a very good example of this belief making sure that his voice was heard through his people, and on the other hand George W. Bush did not follow these guidelines.
Sometimes the best lessons can be learned not through role models, but rather from people that made past mistakes or unwise decisions. From the play, we can learn many lessons from the king Creon. He makes many mistakes and harms many people through his actions, it’s not until Creon loses everything he loves that he realizes his mistakes and learns from them. In Sophocles 's tragic play Antigone, through Creon’s character we learn that in order to be a successful leader and or person one must not be only strict but also needs to be accommodating to our citizen’s/people’s demands.
The purpose of this essay is to explain how leadership behaviour may influence group dynamics in organisations. Leadership behaviour is the behaviour; a leader exhibits (Malik, Aziz and Hassan, 2014) and according to (Malik, Aziz and Hassan, 2014) (House et al, 2002) leadership means an ability to influence, motivate and enable others in a way that they contribute towards the efficiency and accomplishment of the mission and goals of organisations which have employed them.
As a society we judge others based upon social norms and cultures. In our lives, we encounter people from everywhere. Cultures are what make us unique from others. Our culture defines us as an individual and our background of who we will become. In the story Renard the Fox, Renard proves to others that the society cannot function without him. Without a leader, society will never function correctly, and everything will fall apart. Everyone is expected to contribute to today’s society and accomplish something in order to fulfill each other. Creating a functioning society is essential to having a maintained and balanced society. Renard the Fox illustrates that the role of having authority is important and ideal among creating a successful and functioning society. As a society, we used to fight for survival; people would need to fight for himself in order to stay alive. Years later, Society has made a drastic change that not only lets us live longer, but we don 't need to fight.
