What would Michael Phelps have become had he been denied access to a pool? What would have happened to Serena Williams if she had been told she couldn’t use a tennis racket? A swimmer needs a pool to swim in and a tennis player needs a tennis racket to play. Just like athletes need specific tools to be successful in their sport, students need their backpacks to excel academically. However, students at South Western High School are not allowed to carry backpacks during school hours. Students at South Western High School should be allowed to carry backpacks throughout the school day because they benefit learning, save time and do NOT pose a safety threat.
