Colleges and universities everywhere use students’ tuitions to pay various amounts of expenses. Some of these costs include staff salaries, transportation fees, and health services. In comparison to these expenses, student living is the expense college students care about the most. Student living could be improved in areas such as housing facilities, security, and meal plans. Considering all the money students spend on tuition, it should be required to keep student living beneficial to students and in good conditions. At Old Dominion University, many students live in on-campus housing. These dorm room buildings have laundry facilities and bathrooms which are used by over a hundred students daily. Throughout the day the showers and sinks run of out hot water. This causes a problem for students who are busy and on a schedule. Having to wait for hot water to come back takes away the time that students could be using to do homework and other school related things. To fix this, larger water heaters …show more content…

There aren’t many security measures put in place to ensure the safety of the students living in dorm buildings. Most people who don’t live in the dorms have easy access inside. This could create a potential hazard for the students. Because of this easy access, there should be metal detectors near the entrances to decrease the risk, anyone, causing harm to students. This is an excellent way of using tuition money. Security should always be a top priority. There are also side doors to the dorm buildings that do not trigger an alarm unless it has been open for over a minute. This is plenty of time for an intruder to come into the stairway which gives access to all the floors in the building. To monitor who comes in and out of these side doors, cameras should be put in place in case of an emergency. Old Dominion University should not do the bare minimum involving the safety of
