In order to be a teacher, it is very important for you to know what you are teaching your students. Students must understand each concept, in order for that to happen the teacher needs to fully understand it as well. One way to assess how well the teacher is showing subject matter competency is through reflection. This can be through many different things such as assignments and assessments. Assessing students helps show how well the students are understanding each concept. It also shows how well the teacher is presenting the content to the students. The teacher must constantly be aware of how well the students are doing and how much the student understands the content. This connection between the teacher and the student is key. Without subject matter competency, it is very hard for both the student and teacher to connect intellectually.

First of all I have learned and demonstrated this in my Foundations of Education class. I had a project that I had to teach the class about a certain section of the book. In order to do so I had to fully understand the content. I have also had this standard integrated into my class Developmental Reading. I need to know all of the information taught, because I then have to teach the content to a student at Wilson Elementary School. If I do not understand the content, there is no possible way for me to teach my student the content correctly. Another class that I have shown I know the content was my Math 119 class. In this class we frequently had to explain to each other how to do the problems we completed. This not only helps the student in the class further understand the problem, but also helps them show their subject matter
This lesson will be completed towards the beginning of the school year to start the classroom philosophy of acceptance. Delaware Standards: What Standard(s) will be addressed by this activity? DE.CC4RL. Reading Standards for Literature K-5 Key Ideas and Details CC4RL1. Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
Then I went to the main lesson which I did on the white board and I started with simple two step problems and got up to the four step problems with the parentheses so they could see me do it. After I was done, I had each student come up a couple of time to check their understanding of it, to me they seem to get it really well. I sent them home with homework to post assess them on the following Wednesday when I came back, I was surprised when they turned in the homework on how well they
As the education coordinator, I will first approach my subject matter as a system itself. I will design my materials first by identifying their purpose, then second their function and finally deriving the structure of the educational materials from the necessary functions. In developing educational materials, I will also want to familiarize myself with my students as I know that according to communication models they may interpret what I communicate differently than I intend due to how they “decode” (Nelson, Staggers, 2014). Once I have an understanding for what my students know, I will move forward by assessing their learning styles as I believe that is an incredibly valuable thing for an educator as well as a student to know. Now that I know what my students know and how
Then I build on that knowledge by working with the class on document A (see instructional material 1.1) then let the class work on the rest of the documents in pairs. Through this method student are shown the material, and the work is modeled for them giving students a better understanding of how to read the documents (Bruner). Allowing students to work in pairs allows for peer learning allowing students to work together, and for students who are accelerated in the class to help those who are struggling with the material (Dewey). This also me to walk around the room, and help groups who are struggling allowing for easier monitoring of progress towards the learning target. Lesson 2 starts by comparing, and contrasting FDR’s handling of Japanese Americans, and how Trump wants to handle immigrants (see instructional material 2.1).
In regards to the perception of importance, I did not respond to any of them with a 1 or 2. In fact, I responded with a 4 the majority of the time. Not only do I see the significance of these competencies based on State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), but also through my experience on multiple campuses and their direct impact on the campus culture and student achievement. When these competencies are followed and care is given to ensure you have a happy and productive staff, student achievement rises.
Competency Standard III To support social and emotional development and to provide positive guidance Functional Area 8: Self I provide an emotionally and physically safe and secure environment where the children can thrive and develop their sense of self. I greet each child by name, smiling and giving them one-on-one attention. I show the children that I respect them by acknowledging their feeling and helping them express those feelings appropriately. We follow a routine, and I discuss and explain when there will be a change or disruption to that schedule.
Evaluation and observation are a key part of a teacher’s development. Often times it happens more with new teachers. For me, I sat in on a teachers’ lesson in my hometown. It was interesting, to say the least. Some of the teachers have been with the school district for years, and only a few received tenure.
Common core is a set of standards for English and math to teach kids k-12 “Nationwide 43 states and the district of Columbia have adopted the common core standards” -Tully. Many people oppose the standards and so do I “Republicans showed the highest opposition 76% with 38% of democrats says they oppose the standards.” -Osborne. Common core should be discontinued because instead of teaching the course, it teaches the test, there is less flexibility for teachers to adapt to how the students need to be taught, and it does not prepare them for college. If the common core standards are implemented some states will have to take a step back because their standards are actually better than the common core standards.
Competency Goal III Competency Goal III is to support social and emotional development and to provide guidance. There are three main areas to succeed in this, the things are self-concept, sociality, and guidance. One focus on Competency Goal III is self-concept. Children’s environments support the development of positive self-concepts.
These students will just rely on their inadequacy of knowledge to conform to mediocrity and get sidetracked in their path. This is why the creativity in lesson plans is an essential requirement for any teachers. Textbooks will only bring one perspective to a matter, formulas and definitions will become less exciting if they are only understood in one way. Still, there are teachers that devote their time to excite their students brains on these seemingly boring knowledge, one example of them are the author’s senior English teacher, Mr Jack McFarland. The author
Author has discussed the background of reflective practice, its importance in health care profession and his own experience of reflective practice by adopting it as one of the components of spiral curriculum at School of Medicine, Leeds University. He has discussed importance and need of reflective practice for students and clinicians, and suggests ways of how reflective practice can be developed in the future doctors at the beginning of undergraduate program. Author gives an overview of reflection in health care education and discusses that it has recently been incorporated in structured medical teaching for its importance for professional development of doctors. Medical students and doctors have been doing reflection like all other human beings do but in
I incorporate this learned experience daily and learn through each success and discovered area of improvement. Addressing my students needs using a variety of assessment tools has been a beneficial practice to help guide instruction. Students have different learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses are not always apparent using the same methods of assessment. Utilizing formative, standards(goal)-based, anecdotal, observational and benchmarks has driven my instructional programs. The combination of different assessments provides me with a multi-dynamic perspective of my students allowing me to better understand their strengths, weakness and academic needs.
The most useful forms of representation of those ideas, the most powerful analogies, illustrations, examples, explanations and demonstrations in a word, the most useful ways of representing and formulating the subject that makes it comprehensible to others. Pedagogical content knowledge also includes an understanding of what makes the learning of specific topics easy or difficult: the conceptions and preconceptions that student of different ages and background bring with them to the learning of the most frequently topics and
Introduction In the teaching profession, exploring a relationship between reliability and validity gives profession educators an understanding of rather their tests/ assessments is reliable/ unreliable or valid/ invalid. In other words, to fully understand the relationship between the two concepts, the profession educators will definitely know the type of testing to measure the understanding of their students. If a teacher does not understand the two concepts and their relationship, that teacher will end up giving students unreliable tests throughout the school year. Therefore, profession educators should know the relationship between reliability and validity in order for them to survive in the teaching field in the future.
In this part I will review myself, about what have I done and what can I do, so I can be closer to my vision. As I have mentioned in my current situations I have strength, weaknesses, opportunity and threats. My strategy is that I want to maintain my strength, overcome my weaknesses and threats and take advantage of the opportunity. My strengths are my calm and observant personality.
