Success can be interpreted In many different ways. From having success by going to college or success by being able to reach the highest point of a tall tree. One thing you must know is that success has the same meaning even though it may be used for different reasons. In our generation there are students who lack the ability of being able to succeed and being able to recognize the importance of succeeding. Success is just a simplistic word, but the meaning behind this simple word is much more what meets the eye, it may not be noticeable at first nor it may be recognizable to others in the end. So what is success? And how how can you achieve it or “capture” it ? The answer is actions. Your actions will be the ones tested to see if you 're …show more content…
There are several ways a Anaheim student can become successful, what about learning subjects that are above their own grade level at a young age? This idea will not only prepare students for higher level classes but they will also be highly educated in that certain subject which is a win in their education. I am a student myself and I highly suggest that this idea should be put into consideration. It so seems that this idea of learning above the students level in understanding is ideal. It is stated by Malcolm Gladwell the author of Margarita’s Bargain that students who learn a higher level of math, English, history, etc, will surpass those who specifically educate themselves in the exact level that they are intended to learn. Frankly, I agree with their ways of teaching since this article that Malcolm wrote about was a KIPP school, and let me just say I do not agree with everything they have to offer even though they seem to be one of the best schools in New York. For instance they have a protocol that goes by the name of “SSLANT” I will not go into details in what this protocol means, just know that it 's intense. Something that our Anaheim students won 't be able to handle , I fully understand that “control” is needed in a school. I 'd also like to mention that having “too” much control can be overbearing and just insane. What students need to succeed is a goal , not control that will drive them crazy. The KIPP school may have a high rate of successful students, but …show more content…
A big deal of Anaheim students which also includes high school students around the world have many personal problems that get in the way of their train of thought, as well as how they perform in school. We can 't blame students for having what they call a “miserable” life, they can always turn it around and think of what 's ahead the finish line. Though they won 't be able to get even close to the end if they don 't have encouragement. Another way an Anaheim HS student can strive to succession is to have those who can encourage them and believe in them too. Family, teachers, friends, just one person who gives them the power to believe in themselves will save them. One thing that parents need to understand which is also implied in The secret to raising smart kids by S.Carol Dweck, that sometimes parents discourage their own children. Sometimes the parents expect too much, and give them nothing for them to grip on or hold onto this long rope of anxiety and paranoia. It may seem like an exaggeration but what I say is nothing but the truth since I live in a strict household, which is aside from the point of course. There has to be an understanding that students will make mistakes, that I don 't doubt. All a (Anaheim) student needs is a little encouragement from family or teachers, anyone really that will
In my opinion, the study that was done wasn’t fair. Speaking of unfair, the KIPP students have got it pretty rough. What they go through over the weekdays, weekends, and summer are unbelievable. As I read through, all I pictured it as was a prison. However, the longer school hours and more amount of school days allows for longer classes.
“It is my belief that all young people have the ability to achieve at high levels, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they do… This includes having high expectations for students to succeed academically, socially, in their college and career pursuits, and in life” –Antwan Wilson Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District Community To Be Served For every seven students that earn a diploma from the Oakland Unified School District, three of their peers will never make it to graduation day. In a school district that educates more than 37,000 students, a graduation rate of 67% means that more than 12,000 will drop out before graduating from high school. A disproportionate number of these students are minorities and students
Fremont High School is a place to learn, and some students truly believe in this. Even though the school is in Los Angeles, which is known for a bad reputation, some students seek success. These students are quite inspiring, as this would be very difficult with the verbal abuse one would have to ignore. Kozol interviews a student who desired to take AP classes, but was stuck in classes that were not in her plans (720-721). Rather than let her take an AP class, she was forced to take a class on hair dressing.

Higher Learning to Higher Success Countless students, teachers, and even national leaders have made the point that something has faltered in our education system. The education system in the United States has been picked apart piece by piece and scrutinized against other methods of nations. This process is repeated time and time again, always leading to a horrible truth of the failing system. Although we know something is missing, no action has been taken to mend the broken education system. The basis of this failure is the less-fortunate students who learn at a below-average level.
When you think of success what comes to mind? In sports it’s making it to the pros. In business it’s making your first million. In high school it can be as simple as acing that test you studied for all night. No matter what profession you are in, success is the desired goal.
If you were to ask a few people how they measured success, most of the answers would vary. Some may state that is based on your monetary value or that it is measured by your happiness. Yet, these answers can be categorized by a broad definition: success is achieving the goal you set your mind to. Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, challenges the societal view of how success is ultimately obtained. The author states “...if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires” to emphasize the importance of persistence and work ethic when looking for success (Gladwell 151).
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
The right path for students The article “In praise of the F word” by Mary Sherry suggests failure is the biggest motivation for students. However, “Sixty-six percent of all U.S. fourth graders scored below proficient on the 2013 National Assessment of Education Progress (…) meaning that they are not reading at grade level” stated the United States education department. Therefor failing students is not the only way to motivate them. Other effective ways are, students can form study groups, students can attend after school workshops, and Parents can talk to the principle.
One definition of success is the accomplishment of the desired goal, but another definition is the impact the achieved goal has on others. One measures success upon the lasting impact that something
Success is found in all goals that are accomplished no matter how small or large that they are. Being successful doesn 't always mean that one must accomplish goals that are hard. To others it could be marrying the person they love. To be happy with that person for the rest of their life is a big success. Being successful at an educational standpoint would be graduating college with a degree in a future career.
What does success mean to me? It means accomplishing things in life and reaching your goals. Everyone has a different view of what success actually is. Success also means setting a goal and reaching it in a time frame you set for yourself. For example I believe finishing college and gaining a career in a field you love is being successful because it is a goal that can be achieved.
“Some say that student performance data is artificially high because low performing students are sent back to the local public schools. You essentially cream off the best students. In the same way, the school summarily dismisses underperforming teachers. Is this an accurate characterization of Beacon Academy,” Scott asked. “The philosophy of Beacon Academy, and, frankly, the mission of The Movement as a whole, is based on the concept of pure liberty.
What does it mean to be successful? I believe to be successful you have to be a hard worker. Someone who trys hard doesn’t mind staying up late doing work. Goes over what they did before they give what they worked on to someone like their boss or teacher. Someone who will also do anything to get the job done.
These students will still develop into quitters. They will give up on everything if things do not go there way. Without a doubt the students that do not give up have a good life later down the
