Sugar is in basically everything people eat from sodas and pop to yogurts and cereals. Most people enjoy this sweet,delightful substance as it gives you a quick boost of energy and tastes great. What a lot of people don’t know is that they may be consuming too much sugar. In fact, children are having 5x more the amount of sugar than the World Health Organization recommends (Kinitari). The type of sugar this is about is not the sugar from fruits, that sugar is actually good for you and gives you energy. The problem with this is that too much sugar can harm your health and waste your money. This is why the best solution would be to ban sugar from school to insure good health. One of the main reasons sugar should be banned from schools is because sugar can negatively affect people 's’ health. As noted on, “Is Sugar Toxic”, Dr. Robert Lustig, the lead researcher says sugar links to a number of diseases from obesity to heart disease. He also states that 75% of these are preventable. Studies have shown that when we consume sugar, it’s equivalent to when someone does cocaine. Another study by Dr. Cantley has shown that sugar can help cancerous cells grow and multiply.
Sugar was a food that no person was ever known to have the power of relinquishing the desire for it (Document 3B). It was also a great sweetener for drinks like coffee and tea, but best of all it was used to make chocolate (Document 4). Over time people started wanting and consuming more and more sugar because it became such an obsession (Document 5). This shows us that people wanted sugar and over time people wanted more and more if it because they found other ways to use it. People all over the world wanted sugar and once they had a taste there was no going back.
The Big Picture: School Lunches School lunches, they follow you everywhere from ever since those elementary days even up until your last few days of your senior year in College. From a parent’s perspective who would not want their child to grow up happy and healthy. Through the past years of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA implemented their new guideline throughout the nation for school lunches to have more fruits and vegetables while cutting out the fatty foods such as French fries or Coke; it would be expected that the general public would have some complaints. School lunches give students a healthy balanced diet that contribute to a healthy physical and psychological development especially in the younger ages (Jeon 130).

Sugar is very unhealthy and can have serious adverse effects on metabolism when consumed in excess. Sugar contains a lot of calories, with no essential nutrients. It also causes tooth decay by feeding the harmful bacteria in the mouth. For people who are inactive and eat a processed food, large amounts of fructose from added sugars get turned into fat in the liver.
A major reason for regulating sugary drinks is to prevent non-communicable diseases among children. If children consume sugary beverages every day, they may experience symptoms such as: weight gain, poor diet and health and tooth decay in children.
