How would you react if someone you knew were to commit or even attempt suicide? People who experience suicide-related behavior are dealing with a complex interaction of multiple different stressors. People who engage in suicide-related behavior also often experience overwhelming feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. According to Suicidolgy, “The suicide death rate among 15-19 year olds per 100,00 people for all US states was 11.1.” Suicide among young people should be recognized as a major issue in our society because of the increased risk of suicide due to involvement with bullying, the potential for suicide contagion, and the heartbreaking consequences it leaves on those who knew the person. Youth who are involved in bullying in any way have an increased risk of suicide due to bullying being one of many risk factors of suicide. Adolescents who know about a friend’s suicide or attempt are more likely to also attempt suicide or develop the same suicidal ideas or behaviors. The consequences of suicide or attempts are devastating to those who knew the person. If our society recognizes youth suicide as the major issue it is, youth could learn that it is okay to talk to someone about what you are dealing with, which could help to decrease the rates of suicide among young people. However, if society chooses to teach youth that they should not talk about suicide, youth suicide rates could continue to increase. SUICIDE RATES AMONG ETHNIC GROUPS It is often difficult to obtain accurate data for suicide rates among ethnic groups in various countries. Aggregated figures often hide major geographic discrepancies and variations in rates between groups within a country. For example, there are high rates of suicide among the aboriginal peoples of Australia and New Zealand compared with those of the colonists.
Keiski acknowledges that, “Individual therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist is probably the most common form of treatment for people suffering from any sort of depression or need help through a crisis.” (95). In most cases, suicide is a result of how lonely the victim may feel since they may not fully receive the love and care they deserve. Hence, it is important that professional caretakers reach out to them since they may feel too embarrassed of their negative thoughts. Directly connecting to this idea, most times family members and friends are not too sure about how to address this with the victim since they do not really know how to help.

As of 2015, 5 in 100,000 girls and 14 in 100,000 teenagers commit suicide (Lewis). Teenagers are becoming more vulnerable and schools seem to be taking no notice. If these lives could be saved, it would help so many families across the united states. The National Institute of Mental Health states that there “are as many as 25 attempts of suicide to every one that is actually committed” (Eco Child’s Play). Suicides can be prevented by treatment of the illness.

We need to be aware of the consequences we are making not only to ourselves but to other people like our friends or family. It’s daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, friends, and coworkers taking their life. It’s everyday people taking their life.
During the years of university, students are overloaded with assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes and exams. These works and exams can create a lot of stress and pressures for university students who are expected to perform excellently in classes. Suicide is the tragic result students choose after facing these incidents.
