Losing a loved one is very difficult to handle throughout your life. Have you ever felt like giving up on life as well because your other behalf or your loved one passed away due to suicide and not being able to see them again until the afterlife? Suicide is the act of ending your own death at your own hand to escape the pain or suffering from the world. It should be meant to enjoy life like everyone else and not taking your own life just by the opinion of others or by the disaster of the world or by any body failure you might be experiencing. Accordingly, to the organization of the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, suicide becomes the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S.
Many people hear assisted suicide and they think that it is criminal or unjust. Many people, more than we realize, have to battle with terminal illness. Every day, they go through pain and suffering. They shouldn’t have to go through this because of the opinions of other people. Assisted suicide or acts like it can help them.
They told Dax that could kill himself once he left the hospital so his death would not be on their hands. Dax was released from the hospital after months of painful procedures but many parts of his body were deformed and lost the ability to function properly, including his hands. He also lost his eyesight and became blind. He is now married and has a successful career, but it came after years of severe depression and multiple suicide attempts. You can still see his struggles and he still questions if all of that pain was worth it.
“It is about ending the incredible despair that exists in many parts of this country where – as a result of unemployment and low wages, suicide, drugs and alcohol – millions of Americans are now dying, in an ahistorical way, at a younger age than their parents (Sanders).” Suicide, drugs, and alcohol are all hard hitting subjects to most, especially suicide. And the fact that he mentions young Americans are succumbing to these things evokes pathos because children are seen more innocent and untouched by society than adults. Therefore, seeing a child, adolescent, or young adult succumb to any of the previously mentioned things would be devastating for most to hear and see.
Death is something that will eventually happen to everyone, but there are so many different ways of people that deal with death around them. There are some people who don’t deal with death well, so they become mentally and emotionally unstable for their entire life. On the other hand, there are people who accept death for what it is and take the necessary steps to become more tolerant to it. In Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande, he speaks about the various aspects (such as the cost of taking care of elderly people) that surround death that people often neglect. Death can be a very taxing area of discussion, but once people accept its cruel nature they can overcome the burden it brings.
Moreover, suicide rates have grown up to 60% during 45 years. The rate for boys and girls are also reported differently. Boys are about 4 times more likely to die from the suicide attempt. This is related to the method that they choose such as firearms, hanging or jumping from the height. Although girls tend to think and attempt to suicide about twice as often as boys, the methods they choose are less dangerous – often using overdoses or cutting themselves.
As a result, teen suicide is the third leading cause for all deaths among teens aged 15-19. Teens suicide attempts and completions have steadily been on the rise since 2000. Surveys have found that 25% of high school and 10% of college students have seriously considered suicide sometime in their life. Therefore, any teen who mentions anything about suicide should be taken seriously.” (Reed) Frala 2
All of these patients will most likely have to endure unnecessary pain and suffer a horrible end. Most of them do not want to go down the spiralling road of needless pain and have to face what these diseases will do in their last months or years. Why should doctors and Americans who have not been through these events be the ones to stop them if they do not want to go through all that trauma of these diseases or even injuries? They shouldn’t. That is why assisted suicide needs to be made legal in all of the United States.
Suicide is a dominant cause of death among teenagers and young adults. The rate of suicides and suicide attempts increases from time to time. For some, suicide is the permanent solution to a temporary problem and most pressing public health issues across the world. Suicides case is so often these days even becoming a trend and we are not even flinch anymore. The depression and substances abuse for teenagers currently become issues that lead to suicide cases among teenagers.
Females are more likely to attempt suicide during adolescence and have suicidal thoughts but their rates of completion in young adulthood are almost four times lower than males (CDC, 2015). Race and ethnicity influence suicide as well. American Indian/Native Alaskan males have the highest suicide rate among men, and female Hispanics have the highest rate of suicide attempts. Early peer victimization in adolescence, influences how an adult manages maladaptation adjustment in adulthood (McDougall and Vaillancourt, 2015). Feelings of isolation, instability, identity exploration, substance abuse, and opportunity all work against these groups and suicide ideation and suicide become their only way to
One of the common mental health problems returned veterans faced is depression. Deployed and returned veterans had a higher suicide risk compared to general population. Veterans with depression often experience symptoms such as deep feeling of sadness, hopeless, inability to focus, and loss of interest. These kind of symptoms are prevalent among veterans however, soldiers with PTSD and depression can lead to suicidal. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US, resulting in 38,000 fatalities (in 2010), making it a significant public health priority.
Death rates are very high among Hispanic, lower among African Americans and the lowest among whites. In addition, Hispanics are among to highes related DUI death then African-American and Whites. While, non-Hispanic Whites have a increase in alcohol related disorders, Blacks and Hispanic have a higher alcohol related cirrhosis issues. Education - Underage drinking takes a huge toll on the body and on the mind especially for college students. Excessive absitine is more relevant with Hispanics and Blacks than in non-Hispanics; however, non-Hispanics have a higher
Therefore, veterans have to suffer in the end. I somewhat agree with Peck statement because if a veteran has any type of permanent injury, then he or she cannot really function back into normal society. The veterans might need more help and guidance to really fit back into society. Some people might blame for the increase in the veterans homeless population because the lack of attention towards the increasing problem. The government officials did a poor job to track the number of veterans in the street.
On February 21st, 2055 a new law came into place in the state of California, anyone who is critically ill and wishes to live no longer, may receive assisted suicide. The state glowed for those that wanted to end their life as they were in agony, family members and loved ones will see the terminally ill bliss in peace no longer in pain. It was a change that had both sides arguing, why take your life away, that’s being selfish while others argued it takes the misery away, why stay alive when you are deteriorating slowly and painfully. Sirens racing down to the central hospital in Los Angeles.
