Earlier times leading up to the arrest of Anne Frank and her Annex family were full of interesting events and emotion. The Franks moved into hiding because Margot had received a call-up for a “work camp” in Germany (Colbert 37). They were deeply suspicious, so instead they hid from the Nazis. The Annex was located in Amsterdam at their father’s workplace (bio.com). They were joined by Otto Frank’s coworker and his family, the Van Daans.

During this time, Frank wrote about her experiences and wishes. She was 15 when the family was found and sent to concentration camps, where she died.
“Anne Frank was born in the women’s clinic in Frankfurt on June 12, 1929, at 7:30 in the morning, just as the weak rays of the early-summer sun were beginning to seep through the hazy cloud cover over the city” (Müller 13). It is no secret that Anne Frank had a truly difficult and brief life, yet most people do not know the extent of the suffering that she had no choice but to tolerate. Not only was she forced to live in secrecy in an attic above her father’s business for twenty-five months, but she was also caught and then tortured at Westerbork transit concentration camp and Auschwitz-Birkenau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. In 1945, Otto Frank was liberated from Auschwitz, being the only Frank family member to survive the Holocaust. Ultimately, he decided to publish his daughter’s diary that he received, and the diary is now known in America as Anne Frank: the Diary of a Young Girl.

The 1940s were a crucial time all over the world with hardships and wars going on for years. Within these wars, two little girls that have been apart of it their whole lives, have shared their experiences through a diary and a book of stories. The Diary of Anne Frank is about a young jewish girl named Anne Frank, who has to go into hiding with her family in order to not get caught and taken away by the Nazis in Amsterdam, and while in hiding, records her experiences and thoughts into her diary. Farewell to Manzanar is a book based on a girl named Jeanne Wakatsuki who is seven years old at the time, and gets taken away with her family to Manzanar encampments, as the U.S. government doesn’t want to risk any Japanese Americans possibly giving up information to the Japanese as they are at war with them. Anne Frank and Jeanne Wakatsuki have many similarities and differences throughout their lifetimes on the run from the war.
Anne frank was forced to go to a segregated school, she also went into hiding, and was latter inprisoined in a holocaust camp. Anne as born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. During this time period, it was hard for people who were jewish. When Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933, Anne's family realized it was time to flee. The Frank family fled to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Anne was part of a family of 4 members: Mr. Frank, Mrs. Frank, Margot and Anne. In 1942 there was a really dangerous war because the Germans didn’t want any Jewish people in the country, so the Frank family moved to Amsterdam. In her dad´s office there was a secret Annex were 8 people needed to stay so they didn’t get killed, because if any of the Germans found them they would get arrested
Thus, the book shows Frank’s somewhat hopeful or positive insight in life despite of everything that was happening around them considering the fact that they were hiding from the Nazis which always posed the threat of their deaths if they were discovered. Anne Frank’s diary starts on her thirteenth birthday on June 12, 1942. Anne writes about her experiences going through puberty as she describes her friendships with the girls and boys of their community, her popularity among the boys, and her academic life as a student. However, they were forced into moving to Amsterdam due to the Nazis occupying Holland, this marked the beginning the travails of the Frank family as they came here with another family, the Van Daan’s.
