In 1963, a man named Thomas Edward John made it to the major league as a qualified basketball player. In about a decade, John grew professionally to become a world-class pitcher. However, in the middle of a brilliant 1974 season, John permanently damaged the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm, which led to a revolutionary surgical operation.
At the time, for baseball players who had serious damage and critical wounds, the prevailing alternative was far from attractive. An extremely small number of pitchers would want to go through operation to rectify their arm injuries. This is because full recovery after an operation was very unlikely, and as such, surgery nearly always meant the conclusion of their careers.
On the case of John, a doctor told him that without an experimental form of surgery, there would be no hope.

His goal for Tesla Motors is produce affordable electric vehicles to save the world from undue carbon pollutants. And then, he created Space X to manufacture rocket to make travel between planets a reality for us to colonize Mars.
These steadily succeeding enterprises were taken by many people to be pipe dreams, ab-initio. Surprisingly, the incredible progresses of these daring ventures are now a testimony to the resolution of Musk. As described in the excellent book, “Elon Musk,” written by Ashlee Vance, the approach of the man is, “success-through-determination.” And it means having the resolve to stick with any challenge long enough until you win out, which includes deciding what your action steps will be and preparing a great deal for that purpose, starting with the most important

In this short story Spalding writes about many different innovations he witnessed in baseball. Spalding speaks about the first glove he ever saw on a hand of a baseball player.

It is a common belief in Major-League baseball that a pitch limit for a starting pitcher is needed to reduce chances of injury. The idea of a pitch limit was first recommended by James Andrews, perhaps the most credible expert on Tommy John surgery. “James Andrews, the renowned orthopedic surgeon, suggested 100 -- a ballpark figure -- in a 1999 study titled "Elbow Injuries in Young Baseball Players" with James Whiteside. Even 17 years later, this study is still frequently cited” (FoxSports.com, 2016). Dr. Andrews did this for a variety of reasons.
When looking back at history, sports were a huge impact on what America is today. Sports helped America gain its own unique identity. As the sporting industry grew, many sports, including baseball was invented. When baseball was created in 1839, it immediately exploded with popularity. Soon baseball became known as “Americas Past-Time”.
This was my first time shadowing in which I observed an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction among a host of other surgical procedures. The moment the first incision was made will be a moment I never forget. The operating room moved a thousand miles a second, yet in slow motion at the same time. Watching Kate prepare the graph used to replace the tendon was a work of art. As I observed the surgeon asked me why the fluids in the joint capsule space were different between our two patients.
According to Eric Baker, author of “Keys to Success” from Time. Com, “Sometimes fighting is necessary. And just having others know you’re willing to fight can pay
Determination is needed in order to survive a grave task and having a strong mental strength to be able to carry out the plan you made. A example of determination is in “X-ray Vision Archeology Reveals Holocaust Escape Tunnel” by Julia Davis. “80 Jews began their escape from the pit where they were being held prisoner through a 100-foot tunnel that had been painstakingly dig by hand” 4th Paragraph. They had dug that escape tunnel with such edge termination to save
Once the patient was asleep, he started by making a small incision on the kneed and inserting the scope which showed a full picture on the camera screens. One of his tools vacuum sucked all the torn ligament pieces away to make it easier to see the part that needed fixed. I got to see the ACL ligament and the meniscus. The doctor stated that it wasn’t as bad as many cases he had seen. When he was done taking out all the torn parts he left, and the assistant sewed her up, the patient was then taken back to get ready for discharge.
Overall from this experience I did learn something and take something from this experience. It showed me how much love I have for the game of baseball and how much I cherish it. The pain of sitting out all those games made me realize that. I don 't need to be doing all these extra little things like basketball camps or whatever. Possibly risking injury and having to recover and miss time from the sport I 've played my
SpaceX’s Mars Colonization Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s most well known speech, titled “I Have a Dream,” is well known for its powerful words, and incredible message. Elon Musk has a dream too. His dream was getting people colonized on Mars, and now, SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company, plans on getting people colonized on Mars, and they are doing it with an insane plan, using the revolutionary ITS booster with new, more powerful engines, and completely changing the space industry, by obliterating the cost to get to space.
Bruce and Vernakis mentioned that decisiveness especially in high-risk situations were also the result of discipline . Speaking of such situations, this is one of the main difference between military and non-military leadership- being better trained to be calm and composed in stressful, dangerous situations and understanding strategic actions
Analysis: Tesla has proven to make an extensive impact in the market. Keeping the company’s position in the high-end industry, Tesla is able to represent just like companies like Apple a high-end product that appeals only to a certain customer base. Tesla is constantly innovating their product in a way that the newest technologies will be incorporated in the production process of the car and the products the companies develop itself too. Tesla is the first major company to have inherited an electric car only automobile production company, which is nearly impossible considering the weak demand for electric cars today. Most car manufacturers today only devote a small part of their product line to electric cars, meaning that they do not want to take the risks of completely changing to electric only cars as fears of reducing the demand for their products is real and because there is still more demand for conventional petrol driven cars.
