Brian Roberson was in a plane crash in the hard-spined north woods of the Canada during the winter. Brian found an emergency survival kit from the plan. It had a 22 rifle with a compass in the handle, hunting knife, matches, pot and pans, a fork, spoon, knife, two butane lighters, a sleeping bag, foam mat, first aid kit with scissors, a cap that said “Cessna”, fishing line, lures, hooks, sinkers and freeze dried food . Brian hoped that these supplies would help him survive until help came. Brian uses the tools to build a shelter out of wood and bark. He lives off the food from the plane and runs out of food. He makes a bow and decides to go out hunting. He gets three rabbits and two fool birds. He cleans and cooks the animals. He makes a rabbit skin vest and eventually makes a coat. He uses the feathers from the birds to make new arrows and a better bow. …show more content…
He saw a skunk that put up its tail. Brian threw meat to the skunk and the skunk ate it. The skunk became his pet even though Brian did not know this. One morning a hungry bear was looking for food for hibernation. The bear smelled the rabbit meat. The skunk sprayed the bear in the face. The bear was hacking, coughing, rolling around, and throwing up. The skunk saved Brian’s life and they became friends. One day while Brian is out hunting, he kills a moose. The moose falls on him, and he is knocked out. He eventually wakes up and cuts the moose up and brings the meat back to his shelter. Every four days it snowed an inch. Brian is disturbed that he is still not home. He eventually cuts up the moose and has a Thanksgiving Day feast. Brian hears cracking and gun shots…at least he thinks. The next morning he goes looking for tracks. While he is walking around, he hears crackling and thinks it is a hunter or some crazy maniac. He turns around and a sharp branch cuts through his coat, and he gets scared. He knows it wasn’t gun shots but just a branch
After he was interested in bow hunting, he attempted making his own bows for fun. Him and his friends
Nobody prepares for or expects to end up in this situation. To survive in the wilderness all alone with no prior training and no supplies except for a hatchet for fifty-four days is quite an extraordinary feat. This is exactly what thirteen year old Brian Robeson from Gary Paulsen’s book Hatchet accomplishes. His plane crashes and he manages to stay alive against all odds. After roughly two months, he is rescued and taken back to civilization.
He was making his shelter, but realized that being able to be safe inside of it was better that being comfy, so he decided to “Keep it simple”. The shelter ended up having a thick door to keep animals out, after he was attacked by the porcupine. Brian also had gone through hardships, but concluded that “Things were bad, but maybe not that bad”. When he went out to look for better berries, he came upon a bear. The bear stood up on it’s hind legs, and examined him.
Later when he was 4 he saw his father go get the small dead animals out from under the house
You may watch survival shows that broadcast people surviving in the wilderness, but you may not know that they will be okay in the end, because they have a camera crew and supplies. Now think of them if they didn’t have protection. In the novel by Gary Paulsen called Hatchet, a teen named Brian Robeson was exactly in that predicament, except for he crash landed in the middle of the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a hatchet that was gifted to him by his mom. Brian had to learn from his mistakes to increase his chances of surviving, and Brian had to change his ways to make things better. Brian figures out many crucial things that will save him in the end, and two of them are the most important in my opinion.
Do you want to hear a story about a 13 year old boy who survives in the woods with only a hatchet after crashing in a plane? Brian survived in the woods with only his determination and a small tool. Brian used trial and error, positive thinking and using his five senses to stay alive and be rescued. Brian survives in the woods by using trial and error. Brian suffered having to watch his pilot die of a heart attack.
Brian then swam back to shore and found something that he didn’t know would be able to help him because when he pressed the button he claimed it was broken since all he heard was static. He looked through the survival pack more until he came upon food and he decided to have a feast. While he was cooking he heard a sound but ignored it and deemed it unimportant…... but then a plane landed on the lake and a pilot came out saying that it’s him the kid that was in the plane crash. To that shocking situation that Brian thought would never come, all he said was his name and if the pilot wanted something to eat.
Hayden whispered to the dog that he wanted to know if someone got hurt or if someone was just hunting. He walked in the direction he heard the shot, the dog he found slowly followed him more scared than Hayden was. Hayden said to the dog “come on buddy, I won’t let anything happen to you, you’re my dog now and no one will hurt you.” The dog looked back at his back where he had been whipped and he was missing fur as if he understood Hayden and went in front of him. Hayden hid behind the tree line when he approached it, he saw a farm and a man picking up a dead coyote.
Have you ever been trapped somewhere, where there was no one around and you were all alone? Well, Brian Roberson did from the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Brian was trapped in the Canadian Wilderness for 54 days because of a horrific plane crash. Brian already was struggling through hard times so this made it even worse. Brian is surviving all on his own and he starts to think more in-depth about everything.
He had heard before that was what you should do. But what he missed was that this is a different kind of bear so the bear attacks him and throws him through the air. Brian is hurt but the bear is gone. What comes after shapes everything. He was hurt and the bear just ate all of his food so he had to hunt to survive.
First, Brian broke into the plane to get inside to find the survival pack. He then started searching and found it. This leads us to the next one because Brian uses his hatchet to get from the
The Hatchet is a intense survival story. The main character Brian is trapped in a forest after a bad plane crash. In the story, Brian used three survival strategies to lead him to staying alive in the forest and being able to face any challenges of survival. The strategies used are Trial and Error, Positive Thinking, and Observation. In the next paragraphs I will talk about the three main survival strategies Brian used to survive the forest.
Identify 3 ways how Brian needed to use the environment to survive In the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Brian used multiple effective ways to survive in the wilderness only such as when fire was made, using the wood to make weapons, and using the L-shaped lake for various reasons. These elements helped him a lot. Brian is extremely lucky because when the hatchet was thrown against the cave walls when the porcupine was present on page 76, sparks just happened to be noticed.
Brian dumps the berries and puts on his windbreaker to protect himself a little. He crawls in under the ledge and eventually falls asleep. Brian wakes up to a sound like a growl in the night. It's pitch black and he can't see anything, but there is an odd smell in the shelter.
The man tried to free the bird, and he successfully did. Once it was free and the old man got back home
