Sometime parents need to let their kids grow up. In the short story “Saturday Climbing”.,William Dempsey Valgardson writes about a father and daughter who go rock climbing. The father wants to go rock climbing so he can belong with his daughter. The author uses metaphors,irony,and characterization to show how parents struggle to let their kids grow up and be independent in the real world.
The cliff shows how the daughter is growing up and how the father doesn’t want her to be independent. The father is scared he is going to lose his daughter because one women, Moira’s mom, already walked out on him.
