DEDICATION In life one should never give up and should always keep on pushing for what they want, no matter where one comes from or what stands in one's way. The people and dogs in the Jamaican dog sled team did precisely that. The book “One Mush Jamaica’s Dogsled team” by John Firth is a non-fiction novel describing the story of how the Jamaican dog sled team was formed and of the races they participated in. The main topic of the story though is a man named Marshall Newton, black and from Jamaica, who competes in the Yukon Quest, one of the toughest dog sledding races in the world. Second of all, they had to purchase dry land carts, because that all they could use in Jamaica. Third of all they also had to build a trail at Chukka Cove, the resort that started the jamaican dogsled team, that the dogsled tours would be held on. Finally, not only did they have to acquire the physical stuff, they also had to learn how to train the dogs and actually mush and get funded, this turned out to be a problem because nobody believed people from such a warm country could actually do it. In the end they managed though. It wasn't until a many years after the discovery of Jamaican dogsledding and the tours held in Jamaica, that the team actually started participating in races outside of the country. This is another Jamaican team that wouldn't give up no matter what happened. They didn't care that there was never snow in Jamaica, they made do with what they had and actually made it to the Olympics. The Jamaican Dogsled Team also didn't have snow to train, and yet Marshall didn't give up and he made it through the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod. Both teams didn't care what people thought, they just cared in what they believed could happen. There are actually many other people, that are now famous, that had a rough childhood or unsuccessful start that never gave up like the dogsled team. For example Michael Jordan, who was deemed too short to play on his high school basketball team is now an amazing player or J.K Rowling, who was very poor and couldn't get her novels published by anyone for the longest time, who now is a very well known author. Even in my own life I face many events that make me reconsider becoming a vet, but I tell myself not to give up because determination is the key to success, no question about
