Failure is not easy to cope with. Failure gives people a sense of apprehension, a lack of confidence that they are not capable of achieving their goals. Although it does not feel the best at the time, this is where success is made. Starting off my ice hockey career at the age of 5 I met many new faces and did not realize at the time that one sport would have such an impact on my life. Through the ups, and the downs, ice hockey has taught me how to be a hard worker, contribute to society, and most of all, how to handle situations when the tide is against you. Here is where my journey, and also the most dreaded part of the year comes, tryout season.
Throughout a person’s lifetime, he or she will undoubtedly encounter many challenges, and each person can choose to overcome each challenge or let it defeat him or her. For Joe Rantz, the main character in The Boys In The Boat and one of the eight boys who won the 1936 Olympics in rowing, his underlying challenge that arose was living through the Great Depression. In response to this, Joe and Washington’s crew, along with many other people throughout America, made an effort to confront these challenges. This exertion resulted in helping them to grow into stronger people, who could then set the example for the many people around them to follow suit and face their own trials. Although the challenges life presents can be difficult to overcome,
One example of never giving up in Unbroken is when Louis is competing to be in the Berlin Olympics. During the 5,000m qualifier:
Do you believe that dogs are man's best friend? Gary Paulsen uses symbolism, motifs, and theme to further the reader's understanding and enjoyment of the book.
We won some games, and we lost games, but we did it together. In the beginning of the season, rumors of doubt spread about our team being too short, or not good enough. A Lewistown High School team had not won a Regional Championship since the year 2002, but against all doubts, I knew my team could win. Not only had I seen their mistakes, along with my own, throughout this season, but I also watched them grow as athletes and individuals.
In a little known story about the history of Mark Cuban we get a great example of perseverance and dedication. In an article that was published telling the story of his life we learn that Mark, who was born in America also had a dream and that dream was to better his life and make money. His story didn’t start out all that well in terms of success. In the early stages of his career Cuban tried to make a name for himself in many different fields, but failed miserably in almost all of them. He failed as a carpenter, a cook, and as a waiter. But from all of his mistakes he learned a very valuable lesson, “I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how many times you failed. You only have to be right once” (Mark Cuban). And it 's with this idea in mind that Cuban finally made a name for himself in business, reality tv, and the NBA. I really enjoyed the story of Mark Cuban because his story is a great example of what it means to never give up, no matter how bad things look. And I feel that this is a great message when it come to the American dream, because it just proves that no matter who you are as long as you are determined and willing to give it your all anything is
Much like the treacherous wine dark seas of middle school,my nerves were frayed and worn with the anticipation of the upcoming race; my Odyssey down the lane and into the finish line was about to begin. As I raced toward the other end of the pool, I felt the others pulling ahead of me, and as I reached the wall I went to do my flip turn and slipped. Consequently everybody was ahead of me, and, similar to Odysseus never giving up on Calypso’s island, I found the strength inside of me to pull forward and win the race. I learned that it is always possible to change the way things are looking for you, and that anything can have a good outcome as long as you keep trying. That leg of my middle school journey showed that in order to succeed, you must be confident in your abilities, and that a little bit of bravery can change
“Don’t give up, don 't ever give up” the words that were said in the 1993 espys that gave many people hope. Jim Valvano was a man who lived by that quote and never gave up even though he passed away, he did not ever give up and that is why he had a positive impact. Some of the reasons Jim Valvano had a positive impact is that he started a whole charity funded by espn that has had more than 150 million dollars donated to it, he also helped motivate others to do better things with their time on earth, and finally he just gave people so much hope and inspired people with his story.
Could you imagine running a dog team through a 1,150 mile race in the brisk cold of Alaska. In the book Winterdance Gary Paulsen moves to Minnesota and begins to train dogs to run a trapline. Eventually he acquires more and more dogs and trains them to run the iditarod. By the end of the book he had run the iditarod twice. Gary Paulsen uses motifs, symbolism, and themes to further enhance the reader 's enjoyment of the book.
Hard work got me far in my hockey career. When I first started, I was awful. I was the worst player on the team. The only reason I even made it was because no one got cut. Over the years, I set goals to become the best on my team, the best in central Illinois and eventually one of the best in the country. All of those goals became memories. I worked so hard at everything that I became one of the top players in the United States. All the missed school events and parties, to become a good hockey player. I was 9 years old and went to the gym every day with a personal trainer. Hard work is soaked into me. Everything I do in life is compensated by hard work. It will carry on for the rest of my life, when I am working someday, I’ll be the one working over the weekends, late nights and overtime so I can achieve my goals in life. Do you think I was the one chosen to have the fate of a hockey tournament in my hands if i didn't push myself? I am willing to do the things people aren’t. I am willing to give it 100% even when I am dead tired. I strive to be dominant in everything I do. No matter
In the documentary “Undefeated” by T.J. Martin and Daniel Lindsay, an underprivileged black high school football team tries to break the streak of never having won a playoff game as long as the school has been around. Through all of the struggles that these kids face, they learn to come together with the help of their football coach. While the film was nominated for an Oscar, there are two completely different views on whether the film was about overcoming difficulties, considering the situation or about made up miracles that are only seen in fictional movies.
Every person faces a type of adversity at some point during their lifetime, and in that instance, he or she can choose to give up or persevere. In high school, I was on the football team. Everyday we had to push ourselves in each aspect of the sport, whether it be patience, discipline, endurance, etc. Whenever I got into the sport, I knew that it would not be easy, but I had no idea the amount of work that I would have to put into it to be successful.

From this you can see that the man and dog share many different and similar thoughts on their journey through the Yukon Trail.
