The civil war began in the year of 1861, many historians have established theories for the main cause. Four of the possible theories include, morality and views on slavery, two societies, failure to compromise, states rights and Lincoln's election. Although all of these play a big role in the causes of the civil war, I believe the principle cause of the civil war was, the existence of two societies in the United States beacuse the South wanted to become more independent, had multiple uprisings due to slavery, and had differnt oppions on slavery. America was split into the North and the South, both very diverse. Some might say that the North was very independent and the south was very dependent on the north.

Others say it was because of economical differences or territorial disputes. The cause of the Civil War was not just one of these reasons, it was all of them together which sparked the bloody American Civil War.

These four causes are controversial, North and South both have a different reasons to why it was started. For example North was justified on this war because they wanted to abolish slavery to end inhumane treatment, but the south wanted to defend their views. They had to determine the survival of the United States of America as it defeated the offer for independence by the breakaway of the Confederate States of America. Among the 34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the U.S. and formed the Confederate States of America.
There are many reasons why the Civil War had started. The main, the biggest reason the Civil war started was because of slavery. The Southerners were afraid that slavery was going to be put to an end. The Civil war had started because of slavery. What caught me off guard was that the author was a white female who is an active abolitionist. She was inspired to write this novel after reading a narrative called The Life of Josiah Henson. Henson was a black slave who played the same role as Tom did in the novel. There were some differences from the book to the narrative, but it still captures the realness on what Henson experienced.
