In both David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame The Eater” and “ Radley Balko’s “What You Eat is Your Business”, the argument of obesity in America is present and clear from opposing viewpoints. Both articles were written in the early 2000’s, when the popular political topic of the time was obesity and how it would be dealt by our nation in the future. While Zinczenko argues that unhealthy junk food is an unavoidable cultural factor, Balko presents the thought that the government should have no say in it’s citizens diet or eating habits. Zinczenko’s article was written with the rhetorical stratedgy of pathos in mind. Zinczenko strategically uses emotional pathos through his example of obesity in children.
As diets and health become more and more of a public concern in America. Two authors weigh in on their opinions on how the American public should handle the problem of obesity as well as their solutions to the overwhelming issue. In one article, “Against Meat,” published on the New York Times website in 2009, points out that the solution to obesity should be vegetarianism. Johnathan Foer who is a vegetarian, claims that his diet and way of living is his the way of improving health in the American public. Foer’s article provides a sense of humor as well as personal stories to attempt to persuade his audience for the ethical treatment of animals along with his personal solution for his own health and the health of his family.
The famous American chef Alice Waters once said, “I think America 's food culture is embedded in fast-food culture. And the real question that we have is: How are we going to teach slow-food values in a fast-food world? Of course, it 's very, very difficult to do, especially when children have grown up eating fast food and the values that go with that.”. Popularized in the 1950s in the United States, fast food is a mass-produced food that is prepared and served in a short amount of time that contains less nutrients compared to other foods and dishes. However, in recent years, the fast food industry has become the subject and source of the rise in the rate of obesity throughout countries.
Hunger Banquet Volunteering at the Hunger Banquet at Montgomery College is one of the best experience of my life. Volunteering at the Hunger Banquet, I learned and developed new ideas on how to help people with an insufficient meal. At our first meeting at the Hunger Banquet, we discussed in detail what we hope to achieve during the program and how volunteers and attendees can help to achieve the goal of hunger awareness. Our mission at the Hunger Banquet was to help fix Broken Food System in our community and extend it to other municipals. Professor Ruppert, Hunger Banquet coordinator at Montgomery College, emphasizes that hunger is one of the predominant issues in the world.

Fast food is food that can be prepared and served quickly to people who are on a hurry. Fast food restaurants usually have a walk up counter and/or drive-thru window where you order and pick up your food without having to wait long. Probably you will hear people telling you fast food are not good for our body at all.
During the first week of class, four readings were assigned. One of the readings, “Food and Eating: Some Persisting Questions,” by Sidney Mintz, discusses the paradoxes of food. Although food seems like a straightforward concept, it is actually extremely complicated. According to Mintz, there are five paradoxes, including: the importance of food to one’s survival, yet we take it for granted, how people stick to their foodways, but are willing to change, whether the government should allow people to freely choose food or if they should protect the people through regulations, the difference in food meanings according to gender, and the morality of eating certain foods. All of these paradoxes give people questions to think about, making this an extremely philosophical look at food studies.

I read an interesting book that left me thinking of the way I shop and I don’t mean the way I shop at clothing stores I mean the way I shop for groceries, it also left me thinking of the food that I’ve been eating and even the food that I order when I go to fast food restaurants.
