Leadership is of utmost importance because it has the ability to serve as a driving force for many individuals. By curating an environment of communication, direction, motivation, and guidance, a leader is able to progress towards growth and success. Growing up, I was taught to respect everyone. One point in the text that I enjoyed pondering on was that good leaders are followed out of ‘respect and commitment, rather than fear and compliance’(Sanborn, 2008). If the motivation to follow a leader is fear, I believe the followers lack trust and loyalty to the leader. Another “ah-ha” moment while reading the text was when the author stated the point of drifting. Lacking attention and focus can result in losing purpose and engagement. This can create complacency, or a comfortability with not producing results or growth. Leaders are always finding more ways to improve and progress, so focus and attention is important.
Personally, this book made me realize how crucial it is to prioritize and live intentionally everyday. Prioritizing is making time for the things of importance to you. The reason for prioritizing is because what you give energy to, will grow. A leader who is focused on success, will succeed. Living intentionally results in greater progress and outcomes. Being your own leader is important because it is important to be able to trust yourself as well, but with prioritization and living intentionally, I believe it is much easier to trust yourself and your
